May. 3rd, 2013 06:37 amThe bike ride home last night was great. So far this morning has been more of a challenge. I'm on the commuter train right now...I can take this about half of the distance, but there's no great transit option for the rest of the way, so it's still about 7 or 8 miles of riding. I left home at like 545 this morning because I honestly have no idea how long this commute should take. I realized immediately that leaving without gloves was a huge mistake, but did I take the two minutes to go back and get some? No, because I am an asshole like that. Aside from freezing hands, the ride to the train station was great. Mt. Hood is silhouetted in the sunrise and it's just fucking lovely. Then I felt like a jackass trying to load my bike into the hanger thing on the train. The saddle bags are packed full and it's very bottom-heavy, so I had a really hard time lifting it up to the peg thing and lining it up in the holder. Probably makes no sense to people who don't ride transit with bikes in Portland but the gist is that I was wrestling with my bike and totally losing for several minutes while other passengers looked on. Oh well. Certainly not the first time I've looked like a dumbass in public. Won't be the last.
The train is almost to my stop now, which means I timed this pretty well. I'll have about 4 more miles to ride to my office, and after a shower I'll be at my desk at basically my normal time, which is still half an hour early because that's how I roll. Getting up at ass o'clock sucks, but I think I'll do this route a lot more this summer.
