I'm back at work, but it seems all the agents who report accidents to us are probably already on vacation for the holiday, because it's been very slow all day. I have tomorrow off, but then I'm back here on Friday. No complaints here.

McKenzie and I had a discussion yesterday about my energy levels. I'm constantly complaining about having too much on my schedule, even though I have far less than the average person. This time last year I was psyched about riding my bike all the time, and now I only ride to work when I have no other option. I barely run anymore, and even though I still work out pretty much every day, I spend most of my time not moving. He's worried about me and I'm unhappy with this status quo, so, how to change it? I dunno. It's so easy and so comfortable to just be in bed when I'm at home. So trick #1 is spend more time not at home. This may take a major toll on my energy level, but on the other hand, I spend a lot of time at home now and already have low energy, so it's not like it can be worse. So I'm trying to get proactive about getting out and about.

Yesterday was a day of overcorrection, though. I went to the gym at 9:30, did a half hour of cardio, then a really intense yoga class at 10. Then Z and I drove downtown to grab food cart lunch on our way out to the gorge. It was a million degrees outside, so we decided it was a good day to go back to Oneonta Gorge. It's one of the many "trails" in the Columbia River Gorge, but it's not a trail so much as a river that you walk through for half a mile. We'd gone last year on a mild day and it was FUCKING FREEZING, but given the recent heat wave, FUCKING FREEZING sounded lovely. About a thousand other Portlanders thought so, too. It was way crowded, which made the rock scrambling part pretty treacherous. In order to get into the gorge, you have to scale a huge beaver dam, which is pretty precarious already, but with the traffic of dozens of wet people, all the logs get crazy slippery. Z fell three times, once all the way into the water, which scared the shit out of me, but he insisted at the time that he was fine and it was no big deal. I fell once, but caught myself before anything awful happened. I'm quite bruised today, but nowhere near as banged up as poor Z. Once out of the gorge, we waded the other direction until the creek met with the Columbia, forming a lovely lake with far fewer people in it. We hung around in the cold water for a while, and finally left when a bunch of people with beer and cigarettes started showing up and made it much less peaceful.

When we got in the car, I had a text from my trainer asking where I was. Fuck! I have NEVER missed a session like that. I just totally forgot that I had one scheduled. He was cool about it and we rescheduled, but I feel like a huge jerk anyway. At home, we watched the TED Talks series on Netflix on life hacks, which included a talk on memory tricks. Then I got a text from Chris asking where I was. Seriously, wtf? Did I really miss two appointments on the same day that I spent watching talks on memory? Fucking awesome. Apparently, I'd been invited to games and they were expecting me. I could not for the life of me remember such an invitation, but hey, games!, so I ran out and met the group immediately. Turns out, the host had copied the invitation list from the last game night, which I hosted, so I wasn't on the list of invites since I didn't need to invite myself. So it was just an oversight and I hadn't had quite as colossal a brain fart as I'd thought, which is good. We played some new-to-me games, ate some delicious homemade pie, and then I cut out early because work. And by early I mean 10pm, which is a solid 3 hours later than I'm usually up, so day one of changing my idleness habits was a roaring success.

I'm pretty fucking sleepy right now, though.

It'll pass. I'll be fine. And tomorrow's a day off anyway. A day off in which I will be busy and active and out of the house. Huzzah.

Since it's a holiday week and the office is crazy slow, my boss sent us home early. But I'm still here because Z got rear-ended on his way to pick me up :/

He's fine, but bleh.

McKenzie is fine, the car is fine, all is well.

I had a new cocktail tonight that I fucking loved at McMenamin's. Cucumber margarita. Fucking incredible.
