Yay! Jer got relicensed today (when you're not ordained in the Church of the Brethren you have to be approved for relicensing each year by your district), and he got invited to be a guest pastor at Germantown Brick (I think that's the one?) on July 3rd. This is his grandfather's old church, so it's very exciting for him. I was hoping he'd take up the opportunity to write a sermon on patriotism (my idea was talk about how if people want to be all patriotic they should focus on God's kindgom, which includes all nations), but he's not interested in burning the bridges his grandfather built. This is why I'll never be a minister.

I have to be at work at 7am tomorrow so I really shouldn't still be up, but I had that nap today and I'm waiting for Jer to get back from Roanoke, which should be another hour and a half, so I'm not in a big hurry to go to sleep just yet. I'm also watching the Diamondbacks on MLB Gameday, so that's one more reason to stay up. So far the old Dbags are doing pretty well. Two HRs in the first and now it's the 4th and they've got two men on with one out and Craig Counsell at bat. If you've never seen Craig Counsell assume a batting stance, you haven't lived. Ooh, Counce gets a single to load the bases...

So I heard some exciting news today from Adam. He called to tell me he'd talked to a major league scout in Clemson last week and the guy liked his announcing so much, he offered to write him some recommendations for minor league "voice-of" jobs. How cool would that be? I would soooo ride that gravy train. ;) I told him if he gets a major league job, then I'm going to create my own website for the sake of having something to show for all the press passes I'll bum. It'll be a very strange, but knowledgeable, perspective on the game. "Despite an 0 for 5 showing at the plate today, Steve Finley had a stellar game on defense with two outfield assists, a diving catch at the warning track to save the game in the bottom of the ninth, and a really hot ass. And don't forget he's got 12 home runs already in this still-young season." Some of you haven't known me long enough to understand my Steve Finley obsession. I fell in love with him during the 2001 season, when I first became interested in baseball. I recognized him as the unsung hero of the world champion Diamondbacks squad. (I also recognized John Patterson as a rising star, but the fools optioned him to triple-A only to see him end up with the Nats this season and kick their ass in his first outing against his former squad. Just sayin'.) Anyway for some reason I took a liking to Steve Finley even more than the other players. I quickly became deeply and somewhat romantically (okay, maybe not so much) involved with the Diamondbacks. This obsession made it easy for me to devour baseball facts, and my friendship with Adam, THE baseball guru of central Virginia, guaranteed that I would rise above mere fandom. Adam scored press passes to a Dbacks-O's game last season before Fins was traded, and I got to interview him while posing as an intern. It's one of my fondest memories - but why'd I have to pick such a lame outfit? Next time I meet Steve Finley, it'll be glam city. My cat's name is Finley. I have posters. I know the infield fly rule. I also know the ground-rule triple rule. I bet there are sportscasters out there that don't know that one. Boo yah. Anyway that's an abridged explanation of my baseball fanaticism. Steve's no longer a Dback, but he's still my fave and they're still my team. Other favorites are Craig Counsell (seriously, watch him bat. It's brilliant), Brandon Webb (his MLB debut was on my 20th birthday, and I was there, watching him heat up Tom Glavine and the Mets), Doug Mientkiewicz (partly because he's hot and partly because his last name is hot) and Shawn Green.
Side note: You haven't lived until you've been down on the field during the pre-game warmups, up close and personal for the stretching. Major leaguers can stretch! Mmm! Just sayin'.

Oh yeah, all this stuff is true, I'm not making any of it up - but I am drunk, which is partly responsible for the emphasis on major league butts. But see, this is why my website would be so great. It would be a factual account of the goings on in the game, but with added flare when it comes to who makes me tingly during pre-game warmups. I love baseball.

That's quite enough for tonight. Time to go cool down, and if I'm lucky, dream sweet dreams about Steve Finley;)

Peace.
