Feb. 5th, 2012 05:50 pmToday's race had its pros and cons. More pros, but the cons are sort of kicking my ass right now...
The weather was great and the course was lovely. I wasn't feeling sick at all by race time, which I'd been very concerned about all week (probably contributing to my icky feelings). These things were excellent.
The actual race was 30 minutes of pure pain. The course was quite hilly, and the slant of the road was really uncomfortable on top of the hills. I was unable to breathe out of my nose from very early on in the race, so I felt pretty winded the whole time, and had a stitch in my side for the last two miles.
I ran a 9:45 pace (even with the giant hills!) and finished the 3-mile course in 29:13 without stopping to walk at all, though there were times where I certainly would have had it not been a race.
As soon as the race ended, my nose went from stuffy and clogged to a waterfall. I've basically been leaking out of the nostril all day now. And I haven't been able to shake that feeling like I'm about to sneeze, even when I do sneeze, and that gets old fast. A seriously remarkable amount of liquid has gushed out of my nose today. I'm surprised I'm not dehydrated. I've gone through a whole roll of buttwipe, and my face hurts a lot from constantly blowing and wiping my nose. It is unpleasant.
I'm not sure if I'd be feeling this kind of sick had I not run today...and it's pretty fucking miserable and I really hope it goes away soon, but I am really glad that I did the race. It's always a great feeling to cross a finish line -- so much different from just finishing a routine workout.
I took some super strength allergy meds a little while ago, but I can't really tell if they've helped at all. I had planned to be productive today, but that's not gonna happen as long as I still feel like this.
I've been some form of not feeling well for over two weeks straight now. I'm sick of this. No pun intended. Come on, body, I take good care of you. What's the deal?
