Oct. 8th, 2012 01:18 pmMaybe this evening will be productive, because this morning sure hasn't been. I woke up at 7, poked around the internet for a while, and decided I had more sleeping to do. Slept another hour or two, a little more web surfing, back to sleep. This cycle repeated until I finally forced myself out of bed at noon, but if I didn't have a session with my trainer at 3, I could very well have allowed myself to just stay in bed all day. Never mind the gigantic pile of work yet to be done in the house. If I close my eyes and wish really hard, it'll take care of itself, right?
I fully intend to deal with it all, and I'm actually quite pleased with all the progress I have made so far. I think my energy reserves finally just expired today. All the stress of shopping for a house and trying to work out the finances and other logistics and then waiting on the bank and then moving and dealing with all those logistics...it's been a lot. Only the moving has been physical work, but the mental exhaustion is definitely a major force. So I took this morning to recharge, and hopefully I'll be able to get through my gym session at 3. Then I'll swing by the old place, grab another few bags of stuff, and do some more organizing around here. The most important thing I need to get today is bowls. Yesterday I bought cereal at the store and came home all excited to eat it, only to realize that we didn't have silverware. So before dinner, I ran over to the old place and grabbed the silverware, and was going to have a bowl of cereal in the evening instead...only to realize I have plates and glasses, but no bowls here. Foiled again! Now I've been jonesing pretty hard for a bowl of cereal for a good 24 hours. Good story, brosephina. I know, I know.
I called my mom today to chat with her about scheduling a visit to come see the new place. She didn't answer her cell, so I called the house phone instead. Dad answered, and we had the following conversation:
"Hey Dad! I've been trying to reach Mom but she's not answering her phone. Is she around?"
"Nope. She's teaching a class right now. But it's Monday so we usually go to Chick Fil-A for free milkshakes before 5. They're free for senior citizens on Mondays before 5. We try to go every Monday around 4:30."
"Ah, right. Well I was calling to see when you guys are going to come visit and check out the new place."
"We don't have plans."
"Well, talk about it over milkshakes, ok?"
"Okay, bye."
It's kind of cute how he can babble on about things that no one cares about (free milkshakes on Mondays before 5 for old people!), but try to engage in an actual conversation and you might eke out four syllables of response. Maybe. Anyway, I do hope my folks will make it out here soon. I think they'll be pleased with the place, and I'm excited to show them what their money paid for.
I'd really love to finish putting away all the clothes today...all but two boxes are completely sorted and folded, and I've filled a few drawers in the dressers so far, but I still haven't really decided where much of anything goes, and I think it's probably best to hold off on that call until everything is sorted and I see just how much I have in each category. I'm going to go ahead and set aside all the t-shirts I want to use for my t-shirt quilt(s) and not even worry about finding them a home in the dressers. That should simplify a lot.
