Mar. 11th, 2013 09:24 amJust thinking about my upcoming schedule makes me tired, but then again, the last few days do that, too.
There was the stretch of insomnia last week, plus the concert and my regular work and running schedule that had me in bed and passed out by 6pm on Friday. I slept a reasonable amount, then went to a party Saturday afternoon, but came home early and was again in bed by 7. Sunday morning, I ran 11 miles. It was tough to get up and go, but the run itself wasn't bad. However, I'm really feeling this one, more than any of my long runs before. I'm achy all over, and in bones as well as muscles, which leads me to believe that I am approaching the limits of my body's abilities, and I probably shouldn't push for anything more than a half marathon. I may reevaluate that some day, but for now I feel like 13.1 is well beyond good enough. And I'm really looking forward to being done with that.
Except I signed up to do a relay with my friend Kevin from Napa Valley to the beach in Santa Cruz a month after my half. It's a much lower pressure event, so I don't feel like I need to train or push too hard for it, but it is still likely to be challenging and exhausting. I'll do three 4-to-7-mile legs over 36 hours with little sleep. I'm not sure which legs I get yet, but total mileage will be probably around 15. I admit that I was drunk when I agreed to this, though I am looking forward to it.
I didn't get my regular 4-day weekend this week, because I swapped days with Michelle so that I could leave for St. Louis on Thursday. So not only did I have to be at work early this morning, but I had to take Z to the airport first...we were up before 4am to do that. All told I got about 5 hours of sleep last night, and then I got to work and realized I was out of DDP, so I'll be stopping at the store when I do my post office run in a little bit...
I promised Katy I'd go to her first softball game, which is tonight in Milwaukie, about 30 minutes from my office in light traffic, but who knows in rush hour traffic. Probably significantly more than that. I get off at 4:30, and the game's at 5, but I told her I'd probably be late. Is it awful that I'm hoping it gets rained out so I can go straight home and sleep? I'm so excited that Katy made this team, and I know she's excited about the first game, and I definitely want to be supportive, but oh god I just wanna be in bed.
Work tomorrow and Wednesday, then fly to St Louis on Thursday, IMP Pairs Fri-Sat, off Sun-Mon (though I will be running 12 miles on Sunday, whee), Mixed Pairs Tues-Wed, Women's Pairs and Women's Swiss Thurs-Sun, fly home Sunday evening, work the whole next week to make up for days missed, then one work week til half marathon. HOOBOY. I yawned eleven times while typing this lone paragraph.
At least work is mercifully slow so far today. I hope it stays this way through Wednesday. I also hope I'm able to find time for rest in St. Louis, while playing good bridge and wrapping up my half marathon training. Is that too much to ask? Given past NABC experiences, I can say, probably. Sigh.
