EFO Yesterday
Jun. 16th, 2003 12:37 pmToday I have two separate events to post about, so I'll put this one first because it's the happy one.
Yesterday, I took Jeremy, Kelly, Aaron, and Elana (in my mother's bitchin' boat of a car) to the Nelson County Summer Festival to see Eddie From Ohio, the most wonderful band ever, in my humble opinion. It was great:) The show was divided into two sets, with another band performing in between. Traffic was bad because they had really inefficient parking/ticket selling business going on, and we missed the first song or two, but got there as they were playing "Imagine Me," which I have never witnessed live, and is one of my favorite EFO songs. Yay:) Mike, the bassist, joked about a contract with God to not rain during their set as long as they played a few gospel songs. It totally worked! As we were driving up there, it was raining, but it stopped during their set, then after their first set, it started to rain again, but stopped in time for their second set. This is a truly amazing band, people:) I heard two of their new songs for the first time, "Horse," and "Baltimore." They are both really beautiful songs and embrace two new and different sounds. I really liked them, especially "Horse," which is about how Mike fell for a girl who was already taken by her horse, and it didn't work out because of this. It was a great song:)
At the festival, in addition to music, lots of tents were set up for vendors and such. I had a really delicious lunch of corn on the cob and ice cream, pleasantly priced for the Nelson County proletariat. I also bought a hammock, because Jeremy's house has no furniture whatsoever, and I've always wanted hanging furniture. Ultimately, this means I will have a room or two in my house with actual chairs hanging by chains from the ceilings. But until I can afford such an endeavor, hammocks win. That's fine. I'm a college student. I'm supposed to have hammocks.
At the show, Robbie announced that it was his son Ethan's sixth birthday, and Ethan ran up on stage to congratulate himself on the accomplishment. It was absolutely adorable, and pushes me one step closer to wanting children - but not yet.
It was Father's Day, so I bought "Looking Out the Fishbowl" for my Dad, and got the whole band to autograph it. They're some of the coolest people. Eddie recognized me from an earlier show:) That night, Kelly, Jer, and I had Father's Day dinner at my parents' place with my brother Adrian and his friend Stevie. It was really nice to chill with my family for a while. I had a great day yesterday. I can't wait until the Lime Kiln show in July, because my folks say they'll come to that one. (I'm still talking about EFO here). Anyone else who wants to come, I've never met a person who disliked an EFO show, even if you're not really into folk music. They're just so fun! They had a "mosh pit" of children five and under dancing at the foot of the stage yesterday. Fabulous! Hehe:) Ok, that's it about EFO. Peace.
