Feb. 26th, 2012 08:24 pmAfter a week at the Hilton in Vancouver for the regional, I was really looking forward to coming home to a lot of things...but a lot of those things were not waiting for me. For example...
The shirt I ordered on Etsy two weeks ago
The dress I ordered on Modcloth two weeks ago
A toilet that works (well, we have one that works, but the one in the main bathroom doesn't. The chain broke and when Z tried to fix it, it fell into the drain. Oops).
A refrigerator without rotten things in it.
Working Netflix.
So all that's kind of a bummer, but I'm still feeling good about the day anyway. Our whole team had a good day -- we lost only to the event winners and the post-lunch match where we were all in a food coma, and finished the day 5-2 (all wins against quality teams...we really didn't play any chumps all day), including a 19-point win over the Dunn team (just won a national title in Seattle) and a blitz over Gard Hays' team (without a client today). We were just a hair out of second place, but we handily won X to successfully defend our title from last year in that category. Jen and I were partners then playing with Chris Gibson and a pickup after Stan had to leave early. This year's team was Jen and Chris and Cristal and me. We had moderate success in pairs yesterday, but today was quality.
I have the next two days to catch up on laundry, make sure someone fixes the toilet, get rid of whatever is stinking up our fridge, and get a whole heck of a lot of work done, because I want to have as much free time as possible in New York. My mom is there now, and sent lots of pictures of Bess. I found out a little more about the name -- they wanted to give her a "B" name to honor Rachel's mother, Barbara, and just kind of landed on Bess. So it is but it isn't after Barbara, and it's just a name that they liked a lot. So that's where that came from.
I'm so excited to have two whole weeks in Brooklyn. I will be busy with work while I'm there, but hopefully I can focus and get that done efficiently so I can run wild and play the rest of the time. I have so much to see and do and so many hugs to give. Can't wait!
