Mar. 13th, 2012 05:06 pmI am incredibly tired, and I have no idea why. I certainly haven't gotten a LOT of sleep these last several weeks, but I don't think I've built up too much of a deficit. My body feels otherwise, though. I have slept a lot today and I'm not really interested in further sleep for a while, but I'm feeling too tired to get up and go, too.
I did go out and grab lunch and a few groceries for the room. I found the Occupy Memphis camp, but even though there were a bunch of tents, it looked empty. Maybe they're all at their day jobs and just camp out there at night? Anyway, it's a beautiful day here, but, ugh, the south. These are my roots, and even when I packed up and moved, I didn't do it to distance myself...but distancing myself happened naturally, and being immersed in southern attitudes is just sad for me now. It's kind of funny that below the Mason-Dixon line, people scoff at "yankees," and shun them for being stuck up and elitist...but I've never actually gotten that impression from any northerners. If anything, the southerners are merely projecting their own elitism. I don't feel like New Yorkers or New Englanders or any other non-southerners are elitist or any kind of prejudiced against the south...but southerners use this alleged prejudice to justify their own very harsh prejudices. I also feel very harshly judged for being a vegetarian in places like this, and it's not like I'm preaching vegetarianism. I'm just asking waiters if certain dishes are made with meat, or simply not ordering meat. It's just...uncomfortable. I miss Portland. I guess I am a Portland elitist. But you know what? Portland is better.
