Oct. 7th, 2012 03:52 pmWe're in! Mary, Josh, Chris, and my in-laws are my HEROES. Not everything is moved in, and there's still a lot to do with what is here, but it's livable. We finished laying the floor yesterday and got all the big furniture moved over. We also got about 75% of our stuff here, so my project today is to get what's here organized. Since I had to take Z to the airport this morning, I went to IKEA for some more items that we could use, and spent a few Benjamins there, but got a lot for my money. I do not feel the slightest desire to assemble any of it right now, though, so that project will wait until I have a bit more energy.
So far today I've just been going through all my clothes and trying to organize everything. I have a shameful amount of clothes. I have already gotten rid of everything I can bear to part with. Stuff that's cute, I gave to Katy. Stuff that's not, I took to Goodwill. What's left over is still about 11 boxes' worth of clothes. I decided to separate my closet and dresser space by the type of clothes they are -- work, casual, gym, and other, which is basically dressy-but-not-work (too formal or too slutty). In the casual pile, I have about 300 t-shirts. Not that many really but quite a few. I can't stand the thought of parting with them -- every t-shirt I own is sentimental to me, like my DI shirts from high school or shirts from concerts I loved or whatever. But the thing is...it wouldn't kill me never to wear them again. I just can't get rid of them. So I think I want to make a quilt. Cut them up such that they're still identifiable, but put them together in an awesome mosaic instead of sentencing them to a long and boring life in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. The only problem with this brilliant idea is that I'm clueless at how to do such a thing, and don't own any sewing supplies anyway. So I'm not getting moving on this any time soon, but I do think this is a project I want done eventually. And I probably have enough for several quilts, to be honest. I could arrange them by color scheme or by theme (I could do a whole quilt of Hokie shirts, but actually I do wear all of those and will not be cutting any of them up!). I'm just putting this thought out there in case any of you have experience with such a project and feel like taking it on with me, then that's just aces.
Anyway I should get back to sorting and organizing and maybe even putting more shit together...bleh. This part of moving sucks. But I'm so glad to be here.
