Dec. 3rd, 2012 10:54 amI'm having a fabulous time here in New York, and I'm bummed my visit will be over so soon -- it just started! -- but I'm really lucky to be able to come out here to visit like this at all, and I really cherish the time with my family. Frankie is just the most loving little girl I've ever known. Bess is still a sweetie pie, too. She's 9 months old now, and she's sweet and cuddly and happy. I've been carrying her in the baby sling thing on my front most of the time we've been out and about, and I love it. It's a really cozy way to hold a baby, and it's very precious being pressed tummy to tummy like that. I'm a sap.
I've also been cuddling plenty with Slim, the family dog. He loves me because I pet him and pay attention to him, and he usually ends up in my bed with me. He's not technically allowed, but everybody knows Aunt Meg likes to break the rules. I've been getting lots of great cuddles here.
At dinner on Saturday, Frankie said, "Meg, I love you super super super super very very very very very much a hundred!" William muttered "Sometimes your daughters disappoint you so much..." to which I replied "Sometimes your sisters kick you in the face." Rachel liked that.
Yesterday we spent the day at the Bronx Zoo. We saw SO MUCH FUCKING. Turtle fucking was my favorite -- they're really loud, shells all clacking together, and the boy turtle grunts a lot. It was pretty intense. Frog fucking was really uninteresting. They just sit there. There was also some rhino love. Horny day at the zoo. Fucking aside, I love zoos, and it was a great time, but the most interesting animal I saw there wasn't even part of any exhibits. There were black squirrels running around all over. I remember learning in school about the industrial revolution and how a lot of animals in London turned black, but I always thought that was just an example to illustrate how dirty things got. But these squirrels weren't soot-covered, they were just black. I'd never seen that before.
This morning, I walked the girls to preschool and daycare with WT, then I went for a run in the park near his apartment. I didn't know how far each lap was, but I estimated it at 600m -- so I ran 8 laps and came back. It took me 36 or 37 minutes to run that far, so I guessed I was underestimating the distance, since I would normally do 3 miles in about 28 minutes. I asked my brother and he said each lap was a half mile. Rad! So I feel really good now about that run, and I'm going to reward myself with a nap, and then some Indian food when I wake up and possibly some shopping after that.
