Jul. 16th, 2013 08:52 amOne of my big projects right now is organizing my jewelry and putting it in the displays that I bought at the bead faire this weekend. I have a few displays already, but more jewelry than I can fit in them, so most of my jewelry has just been in random boxes and bags or in piles on my dresser. Going through everything is taking WAY longer than I thought, but it's been fun to find stuff that I'd forgotten I owned. It's like hitting a jackpot :) I have a lot of really nice things from when I worked at A Different Facet in college. I really did love that job. Since then, though, I've become much less of a jewelry snob, so I have a lot of cheap costume jewelry as well, and of course jewelry is my favorite souvenir, so I have a lot from my international travels. I don't mix up my jewelry all that much. I pretty much wear the same necklace all the time, and usually don't even think about putting on earrings or different rings, unless I'm really dressing up. Maybe with everything on nice displays, that'll be something I play with more.
Yesterday I had my regular training session with Ertan, but when I got there, I realized the gym was way more crowded than usual. Turns out, the Harlem Globetrotters were there running a kids' basketball clinic. I guess they were doing multiple sessions, because one clinic was wrapping up right when I arrived, and then the Globetrotters were kind of just hanging around the gym for the next hour -- and a couple of them ended up sitting at a table right by the training area where I work with Ertan, so I basically had an audience of professional athletes during my workout. I've never pushed myself harder! We did some completely new to me exercises, which I liked a lot even though they were crazy hard. It was kind of a lumberjack workout. He had me do tire flips with the 200-pound behemoth tractor tire, and then also some hammer exercises with a steeldriving hammer (sledgehammer maybe? I dunno, a big one) on the tire (so it would bounce a bit instead of making dents in things). The Globetrotters were like "check out John Henry over there!" It took me a while to figure out the coordination required to swing the thing properly and get in a rhythm, but once I got it, I felt pretty badass. My shoulders are killing me today, though.
When I got back from the gym, my neighbors were hanging around outside, so I joined them for a little while. I talked to the guy who is a fish expert (he once had nine tanks going in his house all at once, some salt and some fresh), and he came over to check out my tank. He's going to help me get it up and running so I can finally get going with that. He was really excited that I asked him, because he hasn't had his tank going for a little while now and he misses it. Hopefully we can arrange that setup soon. Look at me making progress on all the shit I've been putting off.
No real plans today...I think I'll ride the train downtown for some food cart noms, and maybe do some more cleaning and organizing around the house. I should do some sort of workout, too. I haven't been to BodyPump in a while. Maybe I'll go tonight. Maybe.
