Mar. 21st, 2005 07:25 pmIt was a long weekend. I'll start with Friday night and move briskly.
Elizabeth and I watched the Notebook on DVD. Sorry to those of you who love that movie - it sucked. Elizabeth said someone told her it was "exactly like the book." It was nothing like the book. NOTHING. I liked the book, though I admit that it was incredibly sappy (and predictable). But still, it was better than the movie.
On Saturday, I worked 7-4, then hit the road for Charlottesville. Jer and I ate at Bodo's and met Emily downtown. We ran into Daniel Maupin and talked briefly, then went into the concert. Indigo Girls. Way fun. The Paramount theater is GORGEOUS, and I totally scored on the tickets. We were eight rows back, dead center. I didn't like the opening band because of two fatal flaws. The first was their electric guitar (not that I have anything against electric guitars, but it was way too overpowering and the guitarist wasn't anything more than mediocre). The second was that in two songs, they referred to "North Virginia." Anyone who lives here or actually knows jack shit about the area would not call it "North Virginia." It's Nova, Northern Virginia, or DC. On top of that, there is nothing musically inspiring about that region of the state. You want to make a statement about Virginia, come to the Shenandoah Valley, or insert the words "Blue Ridge" in your song somewhere. Now that's poetry. There were some annoying hecklers in the audience, too, but the Indigo Girls were totally cool about it, and we had a great time.
Sunday we woke up way too early and got in a way too crowded car for a way too long ride, but it was worth it. I think it is a law of nature that every time you go out of town, you'll start your period early just so that it catches you off guard at the most inopportune moment possible. I think this even happens to guys sometimes. Anyway, it was an uncomfortable day, and I spent the majority of it with my shirt untucked so as to hide the fact that my jeans were not buttoned. Bleh.
Lucy is very cute, and now a whole year old! I loved seeing her - she has so much personality these days. And I must say, she is one cool baby. After she went down for her nap, we met up with Shelly and headed out for a night on the town. We did a driving tour of the greater Philadelphia area, with stops at Shelly's job, new apartment, Pinocchio's Pizza, and Krispy Kreme. Though we did not stop, we did several drive-bys of the Me Vearhouse and Bed, Ba, Hand Beyond. Seriously, someone needs to check the lightbulbs in Philadelphia. And don't even get me started on the roads.
This morning we again woke up too early, but I guess that was okay since I couldn't really sleep on the bed we were assigned anyway. It was like sleeping on bricks. Jer and I took a walk when we got to Emily's house, then met up with Mom, Dad, and Adrian to stroll Lucy to the park. We never did find the park, but we went through a really cool neighborhood of beautiful old houses. Jeremy and I both were touched by muses on our trip, and are now both cooking up ideas for books. I'd love to go into more detail, but I'm kinda serious about actually publishing mine, and I wouldn't want any of you bitches to steal the idea, so, for now, my lips are sealed.
Before long we were back in the car and on our way home. My asshole family didn't stop for lunch, even though Jeremy and I bought breakfast for everyone and they ate more than we did. Not cool. So I was grouchy all day until 5pm when we finally made it to Bodo's for lunch/dinner. I can never get enough of that place. Jer made the mistake of ordering everything bagels (I told him not to!) and now he can't go to Biolife tomorrow for fear of testing a false positive for opium due to the poppy seeds he ate. Biolife is this place he goes to "donate" plasma twice weekly. They pay him $50 a week to do it, so I hardly call it a donation, but whatever...
And now we're back home. We stopped by Backstage Video (doesn't that sound like a porn store? It's not, though) to get the latest Mandy Moore film (I love her, what can I say?), which I suppose we'll watch very soon. I also emailed my real estate agent with some questions about employment, as I am quickly souring on my job at the nut. I'd love real estate. I should totally be doing that now anyway. So wish me luck.
Peace.
EDIT: To clarify why the car ride was so terrible, on top of physical discomfort and hunger, Rush Limbaugh was on full blast all the way up and all the way back. My family really is a bunch of assholes. But at least I can thank Rush for making me even more liberal than I was before the journey began. I wonder if he knows he has that effect on people? I <3 being a leftist:)

Date: 2005-03-22 04:55 am (UTC)I used to listen to Rush, maybe 10 years ago. He's changed. I can't stand to listen to him anymore. Now Boortz on the other hand.. I like him. He made me more liberatarian than I thought I was. LOL
