I just realized that there are lots of things I don't know about many of you, my LJ friends. So here's a little thing I made up that you can fill out and pass on if you'd like.

How big is your family?
Tell me something unique about your family.
Tell me something unique about yourself individually.
What did you/are you/will you get your degree in, and what college (if you went/are going/will go)?
What is your favorite thing to do when you have a day off?
What is the best gift someone ever gave you?
What was the best experience of your life?
What influences you most?

I think that is enough for some long responses. I figure this is more meaningful than those what is your nickname, favorite color, etc. surveys.

If you want my answers,
How big is your family?

Growing up, it was my mom, dad, paternal grandmother (Marma), and two brothers, William (14 years older) and Adrian (12 years older). Now it's just my parents at home, and I have a husband, Jeremy (25), two people renting rooms in my house (Brent and Chal), and two cats (Finley and Tima, both 1 year old). I have one brother-in-law (Nathan, 21), and my brother William has a daughter, Lucy, age 14 months. See pictures of her on his website: www.sbillmassie.com

Tell me something unique about your family.

We're what's known as "old money." I'm poor, but I come from a legacy.... There is a town named after my great-great-great grandfather, Massies Mill. It's where we have our farm, and it's probably my favorite place in the world.

Tell me something unique about yourself individually.

I qualified for a Mensa membership when I was 18 to prove to my boyfriend's mom that I really am intelligent. She's a frigid bitch, though, and didn't care.

What did you/are you/will you get your degree in, and what college (if you went/are going/will go)?

I got a degree in Philosophy and Religion from Bridgewater College. I finished coursework for a degree in History, but never wrote a thesis.

What is your favorite thing to do when you have a day off?

Go to my farm and play outside with my husband.

What is the best gift someone ever gave you?

Emily G. gave me a snow globe with pictures of us as little kids for Christmas when I was 17. It was simple, but so thoughtful and perfect.

What was the best experience of your life?

DI Global finals, getting married, Falcon Ridge, going to Australia and Guatemala. I can't rank them.

What influences you most?

My strong belief in "liberal" values. Pacifism, love>fear, civil rights, human rights, animal rights, environmentalism.
Jesus of Nazareth
Folk music

So do you belong to Mensa? I think Patrick would qualify, but I think I'd just miss the cutoff.

Okay, my responses:

How big is your family?
Mom, Dad, and two brothers. Our branch of the family moved away - nearly everyone else (as well as most of Patrick's family) lives in NY state. Now it's just Patrick, Maya the kitty, and me.

Tell me something unique about your family.
My maiden name is Winslow. There were seven Winslow brothers on the Mayflower. One was the first governor of Plymouth county. The other six were hung as horse thieves!

Tell me something unique about yourself individually.
Hmm. I don't think I am very unique. I think I'm pretty average. But I think that's okay :)

What did you/are you/will you get your degree in, and what college (if you went/are going/will go)?
-Bachelors of Science in Biology from Clarkson University
-(will have) Masters of Art in Elementary Education from Roger Williams University
-I'd love to get another Masters in special education, and/or to get an EdD or a PhD in education someday.

What is your favorite thing to do when you have a day off?
-sit outside and read/write
-watch movies and chatter with my husband

What is the best gift someone ever gave you?
My husband gave me a teddy bear for Valentine's day when we were dating. I hadn't realized he was serious about me, and that one single gesture completely changed how I saw him as a person.

What was the best experience of your life?
Some of them include Christmases with extended family at my grandparents as a child, learning to ride horses, getting married, honeymooning in Aruba, visiting Hawaii, and an entire summer that's a favorite of mine (spent on the lake in VT with Patrick - when we fell in love).

What influences you most?
My family, my husband, my desire to help others, my moral compass... etc.

My father-in-law has a PhD in Educational Research, but works in insurance.
My mother-in-law has a B.A. (and no M.A. that I know of) in education and is an early childhood special ed teacher. Funny how things turn out.

How big is your family? 4 Generations, I have 12 cousins, and 13 or 14 second cousins - so pretty big I think. Immediate family is just Amanda and I.
Tell me something unique about your family. My Grandmother was 44 when she had my Mom, 10 years after her closest sibling. Not one person from my extended family lives more than 1/2 an hour away. (for now)
Tell me something unique about yourself individually. Unique? Hmm.. Oh! I have a fear of wax museums..
What did you/are you/will you get your degree in, and what college (if you went/are going/will go)? If I ever finish - Accounting, I started at Blue Ridge and don't know that I'll ever finish.
What is your favorite thing to do when you have a day off? Go to a concert!
What is the best gift someone ever gave you? I'd say Sunday when Clayton (of his own accord) woke me up with a card he had made.
What was the best experience of your life? Starting my own business.. on a lot of levels (marriage and childbirth aside, of course)
What influences you most? My husband and kids. They are in the back of my mind with each decision and every thought of the day. Everything I do affects them in some way.
