Since Jer still has my Harry Potter books in his car, and his car is with him at work, another update it is!

My brothers are in NYC (well, one of them lives there) for the Belmont Stakes this weekend. I love horse racing. I love it guilt-free now that I talked to my friend the vet and he said that race horses are treated better than any other animals in the world. Anyway, I checked out the Daily Racing Form online (only the free parts, which don't give a lot of good information to handicap a race) and picked my horses. I'm like William - I can't bet on a favorite, because what's the point? It's not worth the payoff. So I sent my bets with my brother Adrian. They are as follows:
$5 on Reverbrate to win
$5 on Chekhov to show (3rd place or better)
$5 on S. Africa to show
$2 on the second-longest shot at racetime to show

I figure the last one is a good bet because there's almost always a surprise or two in the top three, and when there are, there's a great payoff. At the last Belmont I went to, I won over $700 by making bets on long shots to show. I picked the other three because they all looked like they have good potential, and they also don't appear to be heavy favorites, so the payoffs should be good if I'm right. The one I bet on to win was 6-1 this morning, the other two were 12-1, and the last bet will probably be something like 50-1 or 20-1. Anyway. Watch the race tomorrow night and wish me luck:) (It is SO not a Brethren preacher's wife thing to do to be playing the ponies...shh)

Speaking of Brethren preachers, Jer was asked to preach at the end of the month at Sunrise Church of the Brethren, which is where he has been attending for the last couple of months. It is also the church that the president of our college attends. :) Then he's preaching the very next weekend at Germantown Brick, which is somewhere near Roanoke(?). I'm happy for him.

I'm also happy for my husband that RT lost another grill chef. Today, Gary (the GM) agreed to train him on grill. He's starting tonight. He can make easily twice as much on grill as he does most days. That is a good thing. Also, he finally talked to Gary about possible advancement, and Gary agreed that he will make a good manager and he is going to put him on that track ASAP. I told Jer he had to talk to Gary about this because as much as he talks about all the grand aspirations he has, I just don't see him leaving the restaurant anytime soon. He loves it so much, and I know how hard it is to find a job you love...so I want him to stay there...but only if the cash flow increases. Cause...well...I want things.

Anyway, it's time to go to work now. Jer should be delivering cheese sticks and Harry Potter soon. :)

Peace.

I think so and Gary = Gary Thayer.. SHS class o' 91 grad. I used to call him Ziggy, but he really hated that. I wouldn't bring it up. Megan, I'm glad your foot is doing better. Sprains are a bitch.
