Good News!
Jun. 11th, 2005 05:15 pmI walked today! Okay, honestly, they were baby steps, and quite sloppy ones, but not excruciatingly painful! Hopefully I'll make long strides (pun intended) tomorrow and NOT have to cancel the KD trip for Monday...right now it doesn't look great for Monday...but definitely the following Monday if this coming one doesn't work out. Sorry to those of you (my husband included) who rescheduled work if we don't go...but I'm trying!
Work was okay. It went by fast enough. I read over 100 pages in Harry Potter book 2 even though we were pretty busy. I found myself on the phone totally not paying attention to the people on the other end because I was still reading...d'oh! :) Something I've been getting a lot of, and I don't get it, is this:
Me: Massanutten Resort, this is Meg, how may I direct your call?
Caller: Hi, Mary...
Everyone wants to call me Mary! We all get our names fucked up at the switchboard (Ross has gotten some particular ones - been called "Wolf," and "Washington," among others) but I ALWAYS get Mary. More than people get my name right, they call me Mary. Since this has been happening a lot lately, I decided it must be the way I'm talking, and I've been taking great care to enunciate, but people are still calling me Mary. I don't get it. Meg = 1 syllable; Mary = 2 syllables. I guess maybe there is a conspiracy to change my name, and their plan is to address me at all times by my new name, while also asking the dumbest questions ever. Whatever, man.
I'm still mostly using the crutches, because the walking is less than sturdy. The good news is, I am still getting good workouts, even without going to the gym. You try hopping around your house on one foot for two weeks straight. It's fucking hard. At least one leg will be toned. The other, which is not being used at all, has already shrunk to embarassingly thinner than the other. I feel like a badly drawn illustration. (Isn't Badly Drawn Boy a band? I sometimes feel like a boy.)
Fewer than 40 days until Falcon Ridge! (I lost track of my exact count, but we're close!)
Peace.
