Aside from the still not being able to walk (but getting closer, I think) thing, yesterday was really good.

I talked for way too little of a bit to a friend from high school whom I haven't seen in ages, wallowed in nostalgia all through the work day, and came home and had wonderful discussions with some of my favorite ladies. We talked a lot about first kisses. Not necessarily first ever kisses, but all the first kisses you have throughout the course of dating. For the most part, we agreed, first kisses are awkward, sloppy, and unnerving. Yet, we remember them more fondly than most others, and they're sweet. Also, we're all lesbians. Okay that's not really true, but it's one of those things that we all agree we're a little prone to from time to time;) I think it's natural, healthy, and great that I can talk to my friends so openly about what many people think is so taboo. It was a liberating discussion.

We also talked a lot about high school friends. There are a lot of people I've lost touch with and wish I hadn't. People I intend to contact sometime soon...and I was thinking, are there things about me now that would surprise people that knew me then but not now? Perhaps. I've had a good time going over this in my head, and here are some of the things I came up with:

Things that are the same about me since high school:
I still march to a different beat - I never did conform to much
I still speak honestly about subjects most people keep to themselves
I still hike and camp and don't drink, smoke, or use drugs
I'm still a vegetarian
I'm still a bleeding heart
I still have great style
I'm still a big dork
My closest friends are still the same people, for the most part - Emily, Emily, Helen, Adam

Things that are different about me since high school:
I'm more outspoken. I rarely raised my hand in high school; in college, I carried the discussion.
I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaay more liberal (you thought I was liberal then)
I've embraced Christianity, but I do still dislike organized religion
I'm married, own my own house at Massanutten, and I have a new car with fewer bumper stickers
I have more piercings - 3 holes in my left ear, 2 in my right, and one in my tongue
I dress more like a hippie - patchwork, tie dye, long hair, less underwear
I'm much more intellectual. I was smart in high school; now I am smart and educated.
I sometimes wear makeup now.
I cry a lot more. Not because I'm sadder, but because I'm more sentimental.
I'm not as proud of being a Virginian. I still love a lot about the South, but I think New England is better suited for a person like me.
Folk music is one of the most important things in my life, and I sing and play guitar now.
I don't eat crappy food much any more. Now my favorite is Indian.

Friends who've known me through both - are these fair assessments? What should be added? And how about you? Make your own lists...I'm interested to see what you have to say about yourselves. :)

Peace.

Good assessment! :-)

What happened to the third hole in your right ear? You did use to have 3, right? (and for the record, the phrase "used to" is so confusing!!! grr!)
