Hard to believe, huh? For those of you completely out of the loop, I got married yesterday. The wedding was BEAUTIFUL, and there was only one little bump in the whole road:) One of the groomsmen was still in the bathroom when he was supposed to walk, so we had to pause for a good minute or two, after three couples had already gone down...a little embarassing, but really it was just what I needed to keep from crying during the ceremony. Here's a recap:
Music (flute and guitar)
Dr. Scheppard's call to worship
Processional (Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring - extended version ;) )
Jeremy and I both walked down the aisle with both our parents. All four folks came up on stage to give us away.
Dr Schappard's intro and prayer
Music (Simple Gifts)
Dr. Abshire's children's story. This was everyone's favorite part. All the kids came up - including some "big kids" (I LOVE YOU BEN!). My bosses' kids were carrying flowers so that they could be "flower girls." Cute. Dr. Abshire even got a crack in about cleaning house. Ha! It was adorable, and everyone loved it. I hope we have lots of pics of that.
Music - Emily Gercke sang a solo of "Oh Shenandoah" with Allan on guitar. It was gorgeous, and the closest I came to crying during the ceremony (but I didn't!)
Prof. Watson's vows and prayer.
Recessional
It really was a spectacular wedding. Pictures pictures pictures, on to the reception.
Mingling with 250 people in a few hours is HARD. So if I didn't get a chance to say much to you, I hope you weren't put off - I didn't even SEE some of the people that were there. The first hour I was there, I barely made it past the door, and I had to go cut the cake. I scarfed down my piece of cake (the only thing I had time to eat the WHOLE time) and it was time for the toasts. This is when I started crying. Emily went first, then Nate, then an impromptu toast from my brother William. The waterproof mascara worked! I'm crying again now just thinking about them!
I mingled a *bit* more, then it was GIRLYMAN time. Rah!
I introduced the band, and Jer and I had our first married dance to "The Shape I Found You In." It was beautiful. And people adapted quite well to the non-traditional dance music. Kids especially:) Ben and Claire Josefson dancing together was the cutest thing I have ever seen in my entire life. :) Prof. Watson gave me the opportunity to show that I can dance, whisking me around to "Kitterie Tide" and "Postcards from Mexico." I danced some with Lucy (my five-month-old niece), who LOVED it. She had this big grin on her face the whole time. ALSO the cutest thing I've ever seen in my entire life:) I didn't dance with my husband again until the very last song, a special request from me to him of "Son of a Preacher Man." We shared that dance with Olivia Jewell. The Jewell's came! Stuart and Janice of edhead fame and their daughter Olivia...and they taped the reception for us! Ok, for them, but we're demanding a copy:) We were so glad they came...Olivia is such a FUN kid.
After the last dance, Jer and I made our "getaway," which was nothing more than a staged walk down the Elks Lodge steps and then a walk right back up them and back into the lodge to clean up:) I finally got a chance to eat a little. The kitchen staff had kept everything out so I could come back there and get some, and they sent us home with our favorites (devilled eggs and stuffed mushrooms). There was no decorated car, because both Jer and I left our cars at home thinking the other would drive. So foiled that great scheme.
We came home and were *SO* exhausted. We slept straight through the night and woke up two very happy and very much in love young people. I'm sorry to those who missed it, or whom I missed, but thanks to those that stayed the distance, we've got film footage of it all:)
*Kisses*
