Just a bit of a rant...
I have a gay friend who goes to Berekley. He's planning to get married to a girl in the dorm across from his to get better financial aid. Do you all think that such a thing is right--to marry someone to pay for college?

Honestly. Thats a big reason why Matt and I don't want to wait to get married. Our families are not helping and basically because our families do make decent money we get screwed in grants. I think you shouldn't do it just for the money but honestly its a plus.

Well, he's not even dating her--he's gay.

Given that you would marry the person anyway, no.
If you're gay and marrying someone you're not even remotely attracted to - no. This is a situation that can only lead to disaster and heartbreak. It's incredibly stupid.

It's hypocritical to call that wrong but then to refuse financial aid to someone who is in a homosexual marriage because it's not legally recognized.
Which cheapens marriage more, guys marrying guys, or people who are in love being denied the right to marry because of their sex?
If the girl goes willingly into this union, which she must, because it's hard to force someone to marry you, why do you need to rant about this? It doesn't affect you AT ALL.

FWIW, I would think it was just as ridiculous if both parties were heterosexual and were just getting married for monetary benefits. Sigh.
I think it's ridiculous to refuse financial aid to someone who is in a homosexual marriage, but that's another rant altogether.

If the gay part doesn't matter, you can leave out the gay part.

Not the OP. But yes, I agree.

You said it.
Anyway, one thing people in this community hate is other people telling them that they don't have good reasons to get married. This whole community is supposed to be a haven of understanding for people in highly criticized relationships. I find this post and most of the comments herein hypocritical and infuriating.
You can be supportive of a 14-year-old pregnant bride to be, but not someone who IS of legal age and is going into the situation consensually? Seriously. And I don't mean you specifically, but everyone.
