I've only got five minutes left at work. I actually called in sick today, then changed my mind and came in at 8:45. Go figure. I mean, I didn't change my mind about being sick, I just felt guilty about taking the day off and decided to tough it out. And it's not that I'm truly sick so much as that I'm exhausted. Getting my hair done took over seven hours. It was 12:30am when I got out of the chair. The girl doing it was really nice, but I hated being there. The regulars that were hanging out in the salon the whole time were depressing - a sixteen year old girl talking about getting drunk and high and having sex with lots of people, a mother with a little boy who was encouraging him to hit kids that piss him off at school, a drug dealer who came in and tried to sell us weed in the middle of my hairdo, and the hair dresser's friend who kept talking about how she was going to use men to buy her things she needs - like perfume, boots, and a TV. Sigh. So, I really like my hair, and I'm glad I got it done, but it was the worst possible way I could've spent those seven hours. No food, no drink, no peeing, no standing up to stretch...for seven and a half hours. I just kept repeating to myself what my grandmother used to always say: one must bear pain to be beautiful. The funny thing is, this isn't even about being beautiful. I can tell from people's reactions (while no one has said they don't like it) that most people think I look stupid. But I like it, and Jer likes it, and it's very me, so I feel good about it anyway.

Okay, time to go home.
Peace.

I was mad at Jer for not scheduling his day more appropriately, but it did allow time for me to go to the gym after work. Granted, I won't be making it to Costco today, and we will have to pay for dinner from a restaurant, but I feel pretty good, so I'm not going to worry about it. I'm about to kick back with some Chinese food and watch some football on the couch in my underwear, so it really doesn't get any better than that. Well, it might be better if the football players were in their underwear playing football on a field covered in soy sauce...no...I'm really not that sick and twisted. I just thought it'd make for a funny twist. Please don't be scared.

I hastily picked out 21 songs for a mix to burn and take to the gym with me when I got home, packed my gym bag, and walked to the gym. When I got there, two of the other girls that work in my building were working out, so I hopped on an elliptical machine next to them and set it for 20 minutes on cardio. It's so much easier with good music to keep me jazzed, and I ended up doing 25 minutes and change before I got off and hit the weights. I did a few upper body machines, but cut myself off when I saw it was getting dark out. Since I walked, I wanted to leave before it was too dark for cars to see me - I was wearing all black. So I walked back home, called Jer, and arranged for the Chinese food. Now I'm just waiting for him to get home with it.

For those interested, here's the track list of the mix I made. I know you may not know these songs, but trust me, they're great. Anyone who wants a copy, just say the word and I'll email you the files or burn and snail mail a disc.

I know what you're thinking. Three Hanson songs?! But yes, three Hanson songs. See, here's the thing about Hanson. They're like the kid that played Peter Brady. He'll never be taken seriously as an actor or even an adult, because he will always be Peter Brady. And Hanson will always be the three girls that sang Mmmbop. But there's no denying that Mmmbop is fun, fun, fun. And a great workout tune. And then there are two studio albums since the Mmmbop days that are totally respectable. And, even though I'm married and haven't listened to the radio in seven years, I will always be the girl who loves Hanson. So there.

Also, I only had the limited selection of titles that I'd already ripped onto my computer, so I did the best I can for a five minute burn and run. And I was quite pleased with the results. I'll probably make another mix tomorrow and go back to the gym again.

Chinese underwear football time. Peace.

Oh yeah, and happy birthday to my mom! (who will probably never see this, but who I did call earlier, and who I do love very much)
