Jan. 7th, 2012 11:09 pmI won a race today. Kind of. I mean, I really did win. It was just kind of unspectacular. There were three races at the same place today: a 20K, a 10K, and a 2-miler. I was in the 2-miler, and all the serious runners were in the others. My event was just a fun run, so it wasn't even officially timed, and I don't get anything for winning. Except for the swells of pride at beating a bunch of little kids. Heh. The course was nice, though. We ran past a cemetery, over a bridge, past a farm, and then turned around and came back to where we started. The last 1/4 mile or so was up a steep hill. I'm not a giant fan of hills, but that's the second race I've run (out of three total) that had a big ass hill at the end. My pace was pretty good, though. I generally run about a 10-minute mile pace if I'm doing anything more than a single mile, and I know that hill slowed me down a lot, so I'm guessing my first mile was under nine minutes. Not exactly a world record, but I'm pleased with it.
A couple of friends were running this one with me, and we all agreed we'd like to come back next year to do the 10K. We're basically all about the same fitness level, only I'm a few months ahead of them in training. They'll catch up soon, probably. I would like to be able to run a 10K by this summer. Not necessarily the beginning of summer...but it's a loose goal of mine. That probably means I should amp up the running training. I'm trying to do a lot of things at once -- reintroduce weight training to my daily program, lose weight, tone up, build strength, build endurance, get back to high level bridge, and travel the world. Those last two make all the others pretty difficult to stick with, but I'll do my best. I guess my job should fall in there somewhere, too :) I just technically haven't started yet so I still don't know how much of my time, energy, and brain that is going to demand.
I just want to be awesome at everything, really. Totally doable, right?
