Jul. 4th, 2014 09:32 amYesterday was a really lovely day. We closed the office early for the holiday, and I headed out to Hawthorne for a meetup with a group of friends I'm just getting to know. Since I was early, I spent some time wandering in and out of my favorite shops along my favorite street in Portland. I really miss living there. Maybe again someday.
At 5, I headed over to the happy hour gathering with this group of fine folks. Marissa joined, so there was one friendly face, but actually they were all friendly faces; I just didn't know any of them before last night :) A lot of these folks can relate to a lot of the personal issues I've been dealing with lately, and it was incredibly therapeutic to talk to people who definitely understand. I had a great time, cried just a little, and then left early to meet Dave at the Bagdad for dinner and games. We hung out until it was too dark to see our game pieces anymore, and then it was time to head home. Here's the part I'm really proud of -- McKenzie has the GPS for his road trip, and my phone battery was spent, so I was on my own to navigate home. I'm certain I didn't go the most direct route, but I found my way back to the Beav all the way from Southeast! I feel so powerful!
I have no plans for today, except a vague agenda for working out and doing some work around the house. Jen is showing up either tonight or tomorrow morning, and we're going to nerd out for the day, then wake up super early and go run a 10K on Sunday. I haven't run more than 4 miles since my half marathon, so this'll be an adventure. Jen hasn't trained for it, either, though, so we're using each other as an excuse to not push too hard and just have fun with it. Hah. Right. Fun.
