Knowing what very little background information I do on this case, I find myself strongly siding with the dissent - which includes the more conservative of the justices and not on the side of my personal hero, Justice Stevens. WTF? Maybe I'm missing something, but why do the liberals think this is okay?

I am a liberal who also believes that the family is sacred, and some people have family histories that are tied to LAND that we have worked for and own, and I for one do not want to see my four hundred year old family farm turned into a Walmart! People have dreams in their property ownership, and they are deliberate in choosing a location. You'd hope a few hundred g's would be enough to ensure your authority over your own land. I would read the decision to see what my judges are getting at, but I have to go to work. If any of you (liberal or otherwise) can give me any reasons this may be a good thing, please let me know. I don't want to believe that Justice Stevens (and the others) would vote this way unless there were very good reasons.

Peace.

I'd already heard of a case on NPR ages ago (maybe 2 years?) where a developer got a city council in Alabama to force a whole subdivision to move out so he could build a Walmart. That pissed me off a lot and I always figured that while MOST people would be against this anyway, the liberals would be most enraged...you know? Cause liberals hate Walmart. I just really don't understand. I emailed my old Poly Sci prof to see if he could offer some wisdom on the subject. I'll post his response when he gets back to me.

That would be great, because I can't see where this helps anyone except for Wal*mart. I'm all for capitalism, but not at the expense of my land.

I think this is why I have more libertarian leanings of late. No one is guaranteed the RIGHT to own land, however, those that do own land should have the RIGHT to keep it. Good grief, I need a drink. lol

I'm extremely liberal, and this is extremely wrong. It's also likely to be a disaster for the environment.

It's not capitalism to seize private property! Arrgghhh...

(Not frustration at any of you people. Frustration at judges.)
