Jul. 5th, 2005 01:12 pmYesterday was a very good day.
It started off with some kitten-gazing at Elizabeth's grandparents' place. From there, we stocked up on fireworks at the Shenandoah General Store (they're REALLY cheap there!) and I went on to Ben C's place in Court Square. His place is fucking awesome. I want it. Anyway, I want to spend more time there. We caught up, had some drinks and some dinner, then mosied down to the festivities, where we had fabulous seats for two fabulous concerts. I really liked Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, and I may have a crush on their bassist/keyboardist. :) EFO was great, though I was disappointed at some of their selections. They were slow to get going (I blame this on the songs they started with), and they should've told the background to "Lady Freedom," because I don't think it makes sense if you don't know it, but the second half of their set was the best half a concert I've seen in a while:) From what I remember of their set, they played these songs:
National Anthem
Irish Dream
Best of Me (I wouldn't have chosen this one)
And the Rain Crashed Down (Also wouldn't have chosen this one)
Hojo's On Waukegan
Lady Freedom
Great Day
It's Alright (Curtis Mayfield cover)
Number Six Driver
Drive
Three Fine Daughters of Farmer Brown
Old Dominion
Alone (Julie totally wowed the crowd on this one, as always:) )
America, America
and they brought out the Sixers to do The Weight by The Band. They took turns singing lead and playing solos and it was very impressive.
I'm probably leaving some out, and I think I have these a little bit out of order, but they're more or less in the right order, and as you can see, the part of the set starting with Great Day kicks the rest of the set's ass. Anyway it was a great show, and I loved hanging out with Ben.
Danny, you'll be happy to know that the camping trip is tentatively scheduled for Aug 14-15. That's a Sunday-Monday. Of course that could easily change, but for now that's what it is. Everyone's invited, as long as you're not a shitmonger.
Peace.
