Okay that was fun, and now I'm ready to talk about real stuff.

I'm putting in for a transfer to the administration department at work. They have an opening, it'd be a raise, it'd be 9-5 M-F, but most importantly, it would be something other than what I'm doing now. Depending on if/when I get that, the camping trip will be moved from a Sunday night to a Saturday night. It will probably still be that weekend unless that turns out to be a bridge weekend. There is a tournament coming up in Charlottesville, but I think it's before that. Checking now...no, we're good. That tournament is August 19-21, FMI (for my info;) ) So anyhow I'm hoping I get this transfer. Why do I want to stay on the mountain, you ask? Because I got my stock options report yesterday. It's fucking amazing. The program here is SOOO good. You don't have to buy in, you automatically earn it by the hours you work. In 2004, even though I wasn't hired until September, I still earned $1200 in company shares. In three months! That's more than $4000 a year not including forfeitures. Forfeitures are what is split between all remaining employees when people quit before they're vested. The longer you've worked there, the bigger your cut of forfeitures. For instance, last year I got 38 cents in forfeitures, but Kathy, who's worked there for 24 years, got a few thousand bucks. Not too shabby. And working on the mountain definitely saves on gas, which is nothing short of ri-fucking-diculous right now, so I think I'm going to stick around a bit. In two more years, I'll be 20% vested, and I can be 100% vested after 7 years as long as I work at least 1000 hours per year. That's 20 hours per week, roughly. I can definitely manage that. So that's what's on my plate at the moment. And real estate school. That's my backup plan.

Jeremy's great-grandmother May's funeral was yesterday. We went down to Roanoke, and every single one of her living descendants was there. This is really big news, because Jer's uncle David is agoraphobic, so for him to come out was a big deal, and Jer's other uncle, Don, and his grandfather have had a major rift for the past five or so years. But everyone was there. It's a true testament to the love of Grandma May that her memory can be such a strong force to pull everyone together. Don, wife Sherri, and their kids had been at our wedding, but we hadn't seen or heard from them before or since. I spent a long time sitting and chatting with them yesterday and that was really nice for me. Once our house is clean, I'll invite Brett and Emily to come stay with us and see the area. It's really important to me to get to know my in-laws. I'm pretty close with most of them, and I'd like to be able to say that about everyone.

Jer's grandfather looked really good, I thought. Annette said he'd had a really bad day the day before (mostly because he was mourning, not sick), so she was glad I'd mentioned he looked good. He really did. I hope his grandparents will stick around as long as his great-grandparents have. The family was very sad yesterday, and so was I, but from my perspective, it's a lot easier for me to see the joy of the situation. I said goodbye to my last living grandparent when I was just 17, and she had battled so hard with Alzheimer's for 11 years, that really I'd lost my Gramma when I was much younger. The Drivers and Quicks and Mays and Loshes and Taylors have been so blessed to have such long-lived and healthy families - they have as many memories of great-grandparents as some people have of just their parents. They are just so blessed, and they do know it.

Anyway, that's all I have to say about that. Falcon Ridge is coming up so soon! RAWR!

Peace.
