I <3 my 9-5
Jul. 18th, 2005 05:40 pmThe new job ROCKS and the upset tummy is no more (which is surprising given what I ate for lunch). Okay, so maybe it doesn't totally rock...but it's not bad. Time just flies there, because there literally is always something to do. But you get to pick what you want to focus on, which is great. Like if I get bored of taking calls, I can do RCI updates, or run the credit cards, or scan papers to the computerized files. None of this is really exciting, but none of it is terrible, either, and like I said, time flies. We're allowed to work as much overtime as we want if we feel we need to catch up on things. For instance, the woman who is training me had 30-some voice mails that had accumulated throughout the day, so she stayed late to sort them out and return calls. I'll have some pretty major responsibilities at my job, which is exciting and a little intimidating. I'm in charge of running and posting all the credit card payments. Today I think I processed about $100,000 in maintenance fee payments (I KNOW!), and apparently this was a "moderate" day.
I'm learning fast, but there's a lot to learn. Lonnie will be there to train me until August 1st, and then I guess I'm on my own? I sure hope not, because I really don't foresee myself being ready by then...but we'll see how it goes. It was only day one. I just know that there was a lot she didn't even show me at all today, so...we'll see. But I imagine after a few weeks of fumbling around, I'll get straightened out and know what I'm doing.
Perks of the new job:
HUGE desk
My own computer, complete with email
My own phone with my name in the VDU (my front desk coworkers are totally jealous)
As much overtime as I can justify
My own parking space
More $$
A full kitchen in the office
Responsibility
People tend to be nice on the phone - only two whiners today, and they were both being stupid.
I simply love it. I know I'll be good at it once I get the hang of it...which may take a while...but I can manage.
As far as the people who were in there today, I'm the youngest, but I think a couple of the secretaries (we have secretaries!) are younger maybe.
I'm just so glad to finally be moving on...and to something that will present me a new challenge (accounting) that will make me a lot more hirable than my Philosophy degree (though I sternly believe that shouldn't be the case).
Anyway...don't forget my MK special...thanks a BUNDLE to those of you who've already ordered.
Peace.
