Aug. 23rd, 2003 10:44 pmToday I went to a family gathering at my uncle Kent's place in Lexington. I was hoping to drive off with my cousin's Jetta, but instead was reunited with my back-from-the-dead Corsica. I was a little disappointed, but that's probably a good thing...see, the Jetta is a manual transmission, and I'm not exactly experienced with that. My brother Adrian let me take his car around the town of Lexington for a bit just for fun (it, too, is a stick), and it turns out, I really suck at driving stick. I made a real mess of my uncle's grass while trying to go in reverse. Yow. It was at least very nice to have my CD player back. I hate the radio with a burning passion. Every song on the radio is the same song, only sung by different "musicians." When I decided that, I was not thinking in terms of the anal sex theory, but it can be applied here. My oldest brother, William, has this theory that every song ever written is in some way about anal sex. I once made a list of some of the more obvious ones...it was a lot longer than you would think. Eric is particularly good at coming up with these. Eric, feel free to post a few, or rather email them to me to post since you don't have an LJ account, because I really enjoy what you have done for our research.
So the family thing was really fun. I got to see two of the cousins I am closest with, Allan and Laura. I don't see much of them anymore because we're all so busy and spread out over the globe. Laura is in Boston, Allan is in Bangladesh, and I am in the middle of nowhere, so it makes get-togethers difficult. But I love them dearly and I really enjoyed catching up with them. They are two of the funniest people I know. Their personalities cannot be explained. But if you've met them, you know they are fantastic individuals. So I had a good day. There are so many babies in our family now! One more is on the way in just a few weeks:) My poor parents are the only ones without grandkids. It makes me sad (although not sad enough to provide any offspring just yet) because I know how badly my parents want grandchildren of their own. They both babysit all the time, and my dad turns into a whole different person when a toddler is around. As we were trying to round everyone up to say goodbyes today, Dad was racing my baby cousin Indraneel - Dad on foot, Indra in one of those little toddler buggies - down my uncle's street. A real Kodak moment. I do hope I have kids before my parents are too old to enjoy them...I almost want kids more for my parents than for myself...although I love seeing Jer with babies and it gives me a very warm feeling to think one day we'll have our own.
In other news, Jer may be getting a part-time job at ADF. He's expressed interest to Mike and Randy about doing basic benchwork (ring sizing, soldering jobs, etc), and also about using the Cadcam program. Mike's eyes lit up when Jeremy volunteered to learn that. I think they are going to offer him a job. He spends so much time there, he may as well start getting paid for it. The really cool thing is, if he learns benchwork, he can set my engagement ring himself. That would be so special...I love you, Jcow:)
Tomorrow is my first day off work (besides moving day on Tuesday) in almost three weeks. I'm looking forward to it, and I shall welcome it with open arms...
Peace.
