I'm not working Saturday. I was so tired by the end of the work day today that I wasn't really working much - just reading the news and shit, so I think it would have been pretty audacious of me to ask for more OT. I don't think Tammi would've been mad, but I think 47.25 hours for one week is good, and she seems to think I'm a pretty hard worker. Yesterday she offered to teach me some of her duties so I can lighten her load. I'm going to start doing the monthly nonoccupancy reports, which doesn't mean very much to me at the moment, but Melinda and Cassidy have never done them, so it makes me feel special:) Simple pleasures.

Okay now I have to vent some beef (what a funny mental picture) I have with a commercial I just heard. It's that cancer services commercial with all the kids asking questions like, "Why can't penguins fly?" and "Can we go to the moon on vacation?" and then the voice over cuts to "If you think these questions are hard..." and then something about what are you going to tell them when you find out they have cancer. Cancer services good, yes, but this commercial is horrible. Those are NOT hard questions. If you're HONEST with your kids, instead of dumbing everything down (which, if you ask me, is lying to them), they'll understand exactly why penguins don't fly and why you won't be vacationing on the moon. The hard question is more like "Why do people die?" I mean, really. If you can't tell a kid the dirty truth about penguins, how do you explain what happened when Fido got hit by a car? Seriously.

That's all.

Peace.

Yeah. Being honest with your kids is definitely the way to go, I think. Stupid society...

Is it Terry Pratchett that refers to grade school as "Lies to Children?" Mitch told me about it but I can't remember which author he was talking about.

On a totally random sidenote thanks to my Sea World season passes (this is what happens when you live in FL and visit penguins on a regular basis); not only can't they fly, but their wings are so perfectly paired that it takes over a year for a penguin tagged in captivity to learn how to swim straight again.

Talk about a challenge.
