Sep. 5th, 2005 10:33 amThat Sunday School discussion is still irking me.
Mrs. Stone said that the recent events in Louisiana have changed her stance on violent retaliation. She now says that she thinks it is acceptable.
If I die at the hands of brutality, you would be doing me a great dishonor by using that as the basis for changing your opinion. If I die without using lethal force in self defense, it's because I don't believe in using lethal force - EVER. I'm not saying the people who did die/are dying intend to be martyrs for the cause of nonviolence - but I think it's a greater service to their memory to think of them as innocent victims who now go on to something better, rather than to dwell over whether or not you could have somehow killed their attacker...I don't know...I just know that I'd rather be remembered fondly for what I do believe and value, rather than people use my death as a way to justify going against those very values.
Peace.
