Oh, man, oh, man, what an awesome day! I'll pay for it tomorrow when I'm dragging ass at work, but it'll have been so worth it. I'll just go in order...

When I woke up, it was time to get ready and meet Jer, so I got off to a running start. Jer and I went to Mr. J's for breakfast, where I ate a very healthy bagel, and then we headed to the HUU service. People there were so welcoming and affirming - I've never felt more welcome in a place before. It was perfect. I kept welling up during the service, not because of the particular words being spoken, but because I'd finally found a place in my area where I could be with people who share my passions and opinions on all the things that matter most to me. I can't wait to go back!

Then I got home and unwound for a bit. Ben said he'd call me back when he fully woke up, which took him a good while, but at 2 o'clock, I met him and his girlfriend, Kristen, at his place, and headed out to Nelson County. Kristen is great. I definitely warmed to her right away. I talked the poor girl's ear off, but she seemed to be okay with it, for which I am thankful. The drive was about an hour and a half, and our first stop was the Flippin-Seaman shop. Ben hadn't paid attention to the name the first hundred times I'd taken him there, and he got a real kick out of it when I said it out loud. They were having a pick-your-own apple day at the Seaman orchard, so we went there next. We spent about an hour and seven dollars on half a bushel of apples. Ben was the official taste-tester of the day. He ate about twelve apples this afternoon. We got to use those long sticks with the baskets on the ends for getting apples out of trees. I wasn't very good at that, but I was much better at apple-picking-basket-on-a-stick-thingy lacrosse, which we played with apples that had fallen out of the trees. The sticks are a good eight or ten feet long - much harder to control than a lacrosse stick, but also much more fun.

Our next stop was Crabtree Falls. My foot wasn't up to the whole hike, but we went as high as the third level of falls. Ben took a lot of strange pictures. He says it's not a challenge if you actually look through the lens, so he never did. He wound up with a lot of pictures of the tops of our heads and the like, but also some really great candid shots because it's much harder to tell a picture is about to be taken when no one holds a camera up to their eye. I talked a lot about Falcon Ridge, and Ben wants to come now. Yay:) It's still a big maybe for him, as he will graduate this year and then not have a clue what he's doing, but...hopefully;)

Next was the farm. We got there about 6pm and stayed until twilight. We walked a long way - down the big hill, around the vineyards, into the orchards, to the gardens, around the irrigation pond, and back. It doesn't sound like much, but it is. Lots of walking for this gimp-foot girl. But again, it was worth it, because I hadn't been out there in ages and I had a blast. I can't wait for our next camping trip, but I can't say when that'll be, since Jer's schedule is pretty much every weekend...I'll try to talk him into requesting a trade.

We stopped by and said hello to the Tuckers on our way out of Nelson (they are close family friends), and on my way back from dropping Ben and Kristen off, I stopped at the Woodstone building, cause Jer was already at work for the night. I spent about an hour catching up with Jessica Cave, and then I left at 11 and finally came home.

When I got home, I had a reply from Ember Swift. I'd emailed her yesterday morning to tell her about how she inspired my lifestyle change, and how I was doing really well with it. She wrote back to say how glad she was I'd written and all that. It was really a great email from her, and I'll be sure to keep it close if I ever start to doubt myself.

Did I mention that Chal adopted a cat from his friend? The cat is Muchacho, a one-year-old neutered boy (eunuch?), who is the sweetest animal I've ever met. My cats are NOT happy. Muchacho lives in Chal's room, so he has his own food and litter, but Chal left his door open all day today for the cats to mingle while he supervises (read: watches football). At first, it was just a staring contest with the occassional hissing. This is the first time they've actually had time to see each other. Our cats knew there was a new cat in there, but Muchacho was oblivious to Tima and Finley until today. When I got home, Muchacho had actually come out of the room and into the house, but my cats weren't exactly welcoming. Actually, my cats were standing together staring him down, while he took on the defensive pose. But then my two cats started hissing at each other (which they never do). They're pretty much circling the house, and I hear the occassional hiss, but they're not attacking each other, so I guess that's the best I can expect. Have any of you ever introduced new adult cats to a house that already had cats? How did it go?

Bedtime now, really.

Peace.
