Holiday Traditions

List five holiday traditions of your own, then tag five new people to make their own entries!
1. Puzzles. My parents always bust out the really good jigsaw puzzles over the holidays. Dad always scoffs at the puzzles, but then sneaks into the room when no one's looking to work on them. He's also notorious for stealing a piece so he can be the one to finish it.
2. Redneck fabulous Nelson County dinner. My parents' best friends, the Turpins, always host us for dinner on Christmas day. We watch football while drinking fine wine. :)
3. The Sunday before Christmas Massie family get together. We kids have been pleading to move this to Saturdays for the last ten years or more. Since we're all adults now and live farther away from each other than the older generation, we don't get to enjoy as much time together when we do it on Sundays. But in the words of, well, everyone, "You don't mess with family tradition!" Sundays it is.
4. Nintendo. My brothers always bust out the old game systems over the holidays and we spend a good portion of our time together fighting over who gets to play.
5. The Christmas rant. In my adult years, it has become a tradition that I bitch out the holidays. I hate the hyperconsumerism, the oh-so-shallow spirit of giving (receiving), and the villification of those of us who really don't want to hear "Merry Christmas" everywhere we go, to name a few. I do enjoy the time with family, the gift exchanging, and the spirit of charity (however shallow) - I only wish it were a more regular, impromptu thing. Sigh.
