Jan. 21st, 2006 08:13 amRemember how I said I hoped to sleep in all day? Well. It's 7:47am right now, and I've been awake for an hour, reading in my room. WTF? My alarm's not on, the sun is hiding behind a BFC (big fucking cloud), and I didn't go to bed until like midnight thirty last night. Grr. Well, I'm not terribly tired. Maybe it's enough that I know I don't *have* to be anywhere for the next two days. That certainly helps.
I think my cats are up to something. They're acting paranoid. Hmm. I'll have to watch my step...
My mother called yesterday to say that she's going to be a grandmother again. My first thought was either William got another dog or I'm pregnant and don't know it. Not exactly - the Buchanans are expecting again. The Buchanans are a young couple that Mom and Dad met at the Hokie Club tailgate at a VT football game. Mom noticed that Kate was pregnant and decided she wanted in on it. They became fast friends, and Mom and Dad came to be like real grandparents for Blake, now 5. This was in my Mom's second year of retirement, when she decided she'd take up babysitting. Since then she's "adopted" more grandbabies than I can count, but our whole family is especially close with the Buchanans. They have a second son, Holden, who is 3. I talk about them from time to time. They're a handful, but they're spectacular children. I'm so excited they're going to have another! It's funny - Holden is unmoved by the idea, but Blake is overwhelmed. He keeps saying things like "I'm going to be so busy!" Yeah, between kindergarten and TWO younger siblings, he's got a heavy load. Nevermind that both Mommy and Daddy are hot shot lawyers and superparents. :)
So it looks like the sun might come out after all - I was afraid the weather would be shitty today. Man, it was positively beautiful yesterday, and I was trapped indoors the whole time. It would be pretty crappy of Mother Nature to use up all the good stuff when I can't enjoy it. That would be like my mom cooking my favorite meal when I have the flu and letting the rest of the family eat all the leftovers the day I start feeling well enough to stomach food again. Anyway, I'm still hoping to hike today, but I don't know where or when, and I really should try to get more sleep before I go out. And I think I'll buy some hiking boots while I'm out to get my new running shoes, too. I imagine I'll be ready to go by 1 or 2 if anyone wants to come.
Oh - to all those of you I invited at the last minute to come to the water park on Thursday, sorry I didn't give better notice, but I found out like four hours before we went that I could get guests in for free (as opposed to the $32 fee we expected to pay). But anyway, the water park is great fun, and if you ever feel like dropping $32, it's a good way to go. Actually, they're probably going to redo the prices soon, because they've gotten a lot of negative feedback about the $$. It's worth it, it's just that they don't offer multi-day discounts, so it gets spendy if you go a lot. But if you're an employee, it's only $10 M-Th. I just can't get that rate for my guests:-/
Anyway...if anyone wants to do anything this weekend, just call me on Jer's smellphone (mine is dead and probably won't be replaced until April, when my contract runs out). If you know my number, just add one and you've got Jer's number. (Instead of ending in -69, it ends in -70, but the rest is the same).
Peace.
