Date: 2006-03-12 07:16 pm (UTC)I use Photobucket.com to host, and then link to the picture.
My HTML is a little bit shoddy, but I believe the code is [img src="webaddressofpic" height="heightofpic" width="widthofpic"] except use < and > instead of brackets and numbers in the height and width sections. Don't forget the ""s, they're important for the address.
Generally I cheat and use the picture button on my LJ client (semagic) and it inserts the HTML in my post for me.

Date: 2006-03-12 09:40 pm (UTC)In firefox, to do that right click on the picture and select "view image". You will then have a page with only the image. Copy the URL in the adress barand that is your picture URL.
If you are using IE, right click on the picture and select properties. The URL for the picture will be listed there labeled "address (URL)". You can copy the picture URL from there.
to post pics to your lj you use this tag: <*img src="picture URL"*>
just take the stars out and insert the url of the picture between the quotes.
The longer version that kixeldorado gave also works, but you only need to put in the height and width part if you want to change the original size of the picture. Generally it's better to just do this with an image editing program before you ever upload it to the internet.
