(no subject)
Oct. 6th, 2003 11:07 amI am so pleased with myself right now!
I got my first paper of the semester back today, from Dr. Fogarty. He is a new professor here, and he's really impressed me thus far. Because he knows his subject so well and is so well read on everything we discuss, I was a bit nervous about the kind of grades he'd hand out, especially since we have a bajillion papers this year and I have him for two classes. Well, I got my Marxism paper back today. At first, I freaked, because there is red all over it. But here is what the red says:
Excellent!
good (underlined twice)
lots of underlining of the points I've made - not sure why but whatever
This is a very interesting idea (my conclusion, where I talk about how the US has been evolving into a communist nation ever since the Great Depression and the New Deal)
and lastly, he says:
Meg,
This is really outstanding, with very sophisticated analysis. 96/A
RAH!
I believe the highest grade I've ever received on a paper for a history class was a 94. I average about a 91. For me, a shitty paper would get me about an 82, a decent one would receive an 88, and my best work usually earns low A's, but that's from professors that I don't consider to be as detail-oriented as Fogarty, so I am really, really pleased. And reading back over my paper, I can see that it probably is the best analysis I've ever done for a history paper, and I'm proud of myself. Not cocky, but proud. We'll see if I feel the same way when I get my Black Robe paper back tomorrow from the same professor. I'm more worried about that one.
Anyway, go Cubs, they won their first playoff series in 95 years last night. Now if the Red Sox win tonight, they'll be one step closer to about the most historic thing that could possibly happen in baseball this decade. The Sox haven't won a World Series since 1918, and for the Cubs it's been since 1908. Think how momentous this could be! The toughest competition has already been eliminated (Braves and Giants) in the NL, so we'll see if the Sox can pull one out over the A's and then the Yankees. Yay:)
Well time to go lift weights and get buff. I'm in such a great mood! Rah!
Peace.
