Oh I forgot to mention this earlier. Ahren is on a caddy world tour this year, and he has ten days off between a FL tourney and a NY tourney this month, so instead of going all the way home to Minnesota, he's coming to stay with me, halfway between the two tournaments. He's never been to Charlottesville before, and I need ideas for what he can do while I'm at work all week. Kevin said send him to Monticello, but I dunno about that. Maybe. But that's only a half day at best. Where would you dump your friends off for 8 hours a day in this town?

Any of you locals wanna step up and be a tour guide for a day or something? And does anyone wanna come out at night with us? I'll probably take him to all my favorite spots here - Blue Hole, the Downtown Mall, Ivy Creek, etc...but that's just after work stuff. Ideas? Thanks.

Peace.

I dunno, I like Monticello.

The Downtown Mall is great alone *or* with someone, although with-someone is best for a first time. Don't forget the creperie! God I miss that place. Bookstoring, especially, is almost better when you're alone (but not quite) because you can spend as long as you want in there. Downside is you have no one but the shopkeeper to discuss it with.

There are a number of non-Monticello historical sites around, but M. is the big one, and they're all basically the same, unless you're a history buff. Which he might be, I don't know him. (Hi Ahren!)

I can't think of anything else that doesn't involve either shopping or wandering around aimlessly with another person. If I come up with other stuff I'll let you know!

I don't think Ahren's the bookstoring type. Though every time I see him (I've known him 4+ years), he has the same Ayn Rand novel with him, which he says he's read a zillion times. Maybe I can just drop him off somewhere with his book and he can read it over and over until I'm done at work each day.

I also don't really think he's the historical-sight-seeing type, though I could be wrong. I dunno, maybe he'll be content to lounge around (or sleep in) during the days.

If this were a big city, like people are always complaining it's not, what would he do then?

We've got a couple art museums--the Bayly, or however you spell it, for example. There's also the P. Buckley Moss museum over in Staunton, which is AWESOME.

But now this is making me curious. What is it that other cities "have" that Cville "doesn't", aside from museums?

Charlottesville definitely has everything I need - especially nature. The question isn't about Charlottesville so much as it's about how can I be a good hostess without being there? What do people do in town on their days off when they're not getting together with friends?

Oh of course! You know Ahren...that'd be cool. He's coming Saturday (but the weekends are covered) and will be here through the 11th. Let me know...
