Jun. 8th, 2006 08:44 amI'm sore. And sunburned, but Kevin reminded me that I can't complain about that because I knew damn well I'd be out in the sun all day and I didn't put on sunscreen. He's right. It's not really that painful - yet - so I guess I don't have much complaining to do. I will say this - for the second week in a row, I've been out in the sun for an extended period of time, both arms and legs exposed, but you'd never know I was wearing shorts. My legs have no sign of a tan or burn, even though my arms are totally crisp. It's a good thing I'm not the type to be all vain about a tan;)
I took Tuesday and Wednesday off work for the most part, because I wanted to be a good hostess and show Ahren around town rather than leave him to fend for himself among people he doesn't know in a town he's never seen before. On Tuesday, we hiked at Sugar Hollow in the morning, then met with Meredith and her kids in the afternoon. We caught a matinee of "Thank You For Smoking," which was funny, and we grilled that evening. Jer and I both got drunk, and Ahren took advantage of my inebriated state to grab his first smoke of the day. In the past 48 hours, as far as I know, he's only had 2 cigarettes. Well, one and a half. I'm pleased with him, but he says he has no intention of quitting - he's just putting the habit on hold while I'm hosting him. Sigh. Well, it's better than nothing, but it makes me sad.
Yesterday, I got an early start - up before 6 - so I came to work to sort through the support emails and daily tasks, then went home to round up Ahren for more Virginia fun. We're having a contest to see which state is better. So far it's Minnesota: 1 to Virginia: really big number. But Ahren refuses to concede, so I'm doing my darndest to show him a good time. I took him to King's Dominion yesterday (I've been dying to go for a while now, but won't go with Jer because he puked on me last time we rode a ride together) and we had a blast. There were hardly any lines, and they have a bunch of new coasters. I rode four or five things for the first time ever - The Italian Job, Volcano, Hypersonic XLC, Tomb Raider...I guess that's it. I was really terrified to ride the Hypersonic, because the last time I'd been at the park, they were testing it, and the headrests kept flying off the seats. It is a turbo coaster that just lauches you straight up and straight down this huge thing. I dunno, it's hard to explain. :

That shit is nuts.
When we got home, we met up with
quandary87 and had dinner at the Flat. Quan wanted ice cream, so we hung out in Chap's for a while (no ice cream for me, though, I'd had enough crappy food at the park to upset my stomach plenty without adding dairy to the mix) and then we went back to my parent's house, where we played cribbage and then bridge with my mom until it got late (late for me, that is) and I came home to go to sleep.
Now I'm back at work, wishing it was the weekend...
SPEAKING OF WHICH. Saturday, we're having another camping outing to the farm. Who's in? I think Ahren and I will get there early afternoon-ish, and we can meet anyone else there whenever you feel like showing up. Need directions? Let me know.
You're all invited, of course.
Peace.
