Gym=good; Meg=sore
Jun. 21st, 2006 09:07 amI learned my lesson about letting myself out of the house looking like poo, so before going to the gym yesterday, I made sure all of my clothes matched, were clean, and fit me nicely. Once that was checked off, I headed over. My arms are still wailing from my training session, so I focused on legs, but I did throw in some bicep curls, pull ups, and dips. I also did a short ab bit. All the weight machines were really crowded and there were lines to use things, but almost the whole cardio section of the gym was empty. I found an elliptical in front of a baseball game and started running. I was really pushing myself to make up for my time off. At this point, I would like to rant a bit. If there are plenty of empty machines, it is bad gym etiquette to get on one right next to someone else. Do people not know this? Well, this older guy gets on the machine next to me. I had no choice but to teach him a lesson. When I say I had no choice, I really mean it. I didn't intentionally fart, it just happened. A few times. And I was sweating profusely, so I smelled terrible from that, too. I think he learned his lesson. He got off after just 10 minutes and moved on to the bikes upstairs. Sorry, old dude, that's just how I roll. For the record, if I'm farty at the gym, I will make sure to position myself as far away from other members as possible. If there's not enough space for a fart buffer zone, I won't get on the machines until I'm sure my body can be polite. See, I'm considerate.
So I was sweaty and all, but I really did feel pretty good last night, and would've been happy to run into the ex, but did he show up? Noooo. Of course not. Oh well. I'll be back tonight, wearing more clothes that fit, doing more exercises that show off just how fit I am. ;)
At home, Jer cooked a yummy stir fry dinner and gave me a glass of white wine to go with it. He'd picked up the wine from work and would not shut up about it, so I told him to pour me no more than half a glass. Indeed, it was the best wine I've ever had - but I said I wasn't going to be drinking and I meant it. After dinner, I beat Jer at rummy and socialized with the roommates for a bit. Brendan wanted me to dance some more like last Wednesday, and I had just enough liquor in me to agree to it, so I did. After a couple of songs, I went back to my room, crashed into bed, and probably fell asleep within seconds. But.
I woke up at 3am to pee. I came back to bed, and started thinking about things, and I couldn't get back to sleep, no matter how tired I was or how comfy the bed was. I silently yelled at myself to stop fucking thinking about work and get the fuck to sleep, but it just wouldn't happen for me. At 7, I crawled out of bed, took my time getting ready, and was at work by 7:45. Bleh.
I did have a couple of interesting dreams before my bout with insomnia. First, I dreamed I was hanging out with Brent, and he was airing out his fish. He really does have this giant fish, and in my dream, I went over to his house, and he had the fish just sitting there on the table, out of its tank, airing out. I asked him about it, because the fish was gasping for oxygen and looked terrified, and he just said, "Oh, you have to do that with big fish every week or so. It's not quite time to put him back in." It was weird.
My other dream was that my niece came to visit, and I was just hanging out with her all the time. She's two, but her vocabulary (in the dream) was incredibly sophisticated. I can't remember a specific example, but she'd talk in elaborate, detailed, and articulate sentences - but the subject matter was all little kid stuff. It was very cute, and I'm sad I don't remember it exactly. I do remember she kept calling me "Ott Meck!" which is what "Aunt Meg" sounds like when she says it. She really does say it that way, not just in the dream, so it was almost like really hanging out with her. It was sweet. (There are new pictures of her up on my brother's website - sbillmassie.com - see the Father's Day folder for the latest!)
I've had a mostly good morning here at work. We're having computer troubles that are stressing everyone out, but they're not getting in my way too much, except that I can't log into yahoo to update my fantasy team or check email. That's pissing me off a little. I got official approval for my day off on the 3rd for bridge, so that's a definite go now instead of just an assumed go. We have a meeting that promises to be long and boring coming up in about 30 minutes, but I'll get through it. The boss is leaving town for a long vacation, and I think he's just really nervous about keeping the ship afloat while he's away. We can do it!
And yeah, I'm still depressed, but the exercise is helping and things are going generally well, so I'm doing okay.
Peace.
