Just a quick note before I get on with my business...

There's a new namedropper in our midst. I haven't actually met this one, but she's on one of the email lists I subscribe to. She's only been around for a month (it's a new list) but already her namedropping has reached phenomenal heights. Wow, I hate that.

Peace.

ick. There's a MAJOR one who seems to travel in my circle a lot. They make we want to eat glass.

Did I ever tell you I went to middle school with Rita Dove's daughter?

Hahahahaha. ;-)

how exactyly does one even go about name dropping? I've always imagined it to be something like: "so I went to the store the other day billclinton and there was this very nice lady orlandobloom in line next to me so I asked her thomasthetankengine if she would liek to go out for lunch.." yeah I've never quite understood the concept.

I always thought it was things like "Well, I was at this party thrown by John McCain on a private yacht, and who did I see but Sandra Day O'Connor! I was surprised, since I know she usually prefers spending her Thursday nights with her pet dachsunds (they're such cute little dogs! And so well-behaved! I really must speak to her about who her trainer is), but of course I acted like nothing was out of the ordinary, and the conversation went swimmingly. And then Jesus showed up and, well, you know, nobody livens up a yacht party like someone who can walk on water."

Nah, it's just like gratuitously mentioning in conversation that you know someone. Here's one example from real life - the lady next to me at the Dar concert (not you, the one on the OTHER side) was talking to me before the show.

Me: (to my husband) Man, that was good dessert at the restaurant.
Her: I baked a cake for Dar. It's a chocolate cake. I had to make a carrot cake for Nerissa Nields though because she doesn't eat chocolate.

See? Shit like that.

Yeah, now picture every sentence of conversation exactly the same as this for several hours, and you understand why this woman is my least favorite person in the world.
