Today was nothing short of completely awesome. Saying goodbye to Jer was hard, but I've talked to him on the phone since and I had a great time with my friends on the farm! Ben and I went down together at noon. Camm was going to meet us at 3 or 4, so we had some time to kill. We went to the Flippin-Seaman apple place, where apples and other delights from my farm are sold just down the road. We bought lots of apples, ate lots of apples, and wandered around in the pumpkin patch.
We went back to the farm, no Camm yet, so we played some frisbee, then decided to go get some lunch. On our way out, we got stuck in the mud down in the pasture at the bottom of the hill. We decided not to sweat it, we'd go find a cousin on the farm to help us out. We walked to Bill Flippin's house, because I know he has trucks and tractors and whatnot, so I figured he'd be able to get us out. Not home. So we walked to Maria's house. Maria is in her 80's, and we knew she couldn't help, but at least we could use her phone. I got in touch with my mom, who gave us some advice on how to get ourselves out, which maybe would have worked if we were just a little stuck, but my front tires were more than halfway dug into the mud. We talked with Maria for a long time, because it's just impossible not to, and when we got back to my part of the farm, we saw that Camm's car was there, next to mine. D'oh. When we got down to them, they had managed to get out, so we tried my mom's advice of wedging things under the tires to create traction. After a long time of repeated failure, we decided to abandon hope and pile in Camm's car to go get food. We were still in good spirits, mind you. We'd had a wonderful time dirtying ourselves up and watching as my car flung mud to the far corners of the earth. We got a lot of this on videotape, thus there was much laughter and joy, despite our pickle. As we were getting ready to leave, my cousin Bill emerges on the horizon in his truck, coming to save the day. He chained up the old corsica, and we were free! The holes left in the mud are - I shit you not - at least a foot deep. This is also the height to which the mud reaches on my pants. Good times. I can't be cranky about this, I had such a blast.
We ate yummy food and watched the stars come out while roasting marshmallows and also burning potatoes. Camm's friends were supercool, and I hope I get to hang out with them more. They stayed to camp the night, but Ben and I have things to do in the morning so we headed back and got home at 10. All the way back, we sang along together to They Might Be Giants, and otherwise enjoying ourselves and each other's company to the fullest. I love Ben. He is a spectacular pal, and always makes me laugh. The only thing that could have made today better would be if Jeremy were here to fall asleep with now...but I'll be able to wait a week I guess:)
Peace.
