Aug. 19th, 2006 03:06 pmI'm in Hunt Valley now, on Fingers' computer while everyone else is either sleeping in or working. This tournament...sucks. It's okay, really, I mean I'm having a decent time and the hotel is great, but Ahren keeps getting yelled at by the chairperson and I feel really bad for him because he's doing an excellent job, and they're fucking themselves over and blaming him, and then blaming him even more when he fixes their fuckups. For that reason alone, I don't think I'll come back.
I played this morning with a guy I had seen at some other tournaments and played with occasionally on BBO. He was really nice, and both of us thought we were dominating, but when the scores came out, we were only in the middle of the field. That's the thing about playing in the I/N room - fucking novices give the game away at other tables and there's nothing you can do about it. I just need to summon the cahones to play in the open game. Normally I would always choose the open game over the I/N room, but I was kind of traumatized in Virginia Beach when I got paired with a really top player and had the worst game of my life. It was humiliating and for some reason it's really turned me off to the open game, but that's something I'll have to get over shortly. I've played in several open events since then and held my own...I need to get over myself.
Patti emailed me this morning to say there are already some showings lined up for my house this weekend. Think contracts, people!
I'm coming home tomorrow afternoon. I have a partner for the first session tomorrow, then I'm bailing before the second game so I can be home by dinner time and give myself plenty of time to sleep. It looks like Ahren is ducking out on his next trip to Charlottesville, so I don't know when I'll see him again. Maybe I will finish Atlas Shrugged by then. I'm still working on it - about halfway through now. It's a slow read but I do really like it.
Peace.
