I know they say that you're not supposed to stick q-tips actually into your ears, but why would anyone buy them if not for that purpose, honestly?

After clearing out a pint of earwax, my hearing is much better, but my ears hurt like hell. I think I got a little carried away. I hope I didn't pull out any brain.

I took off my acryllic nails today because I broke one off, so now my fingers hurt like hell, too, and they look like shit. Oh well.

I slept for a wee bit this afternoon, and I think I'm going to try to turn in again soon. Maybe if I sleep, I won't hurt myself anymore tonight. Heh.

Peace.

I find Q-tips work best right after a shower... the wax is all warm and soft and comes out so much easier and without making the ears uncomfortable afterward...

~q-tips work GREAT as eyeshadow applicators if/when you lose the little wands.

~they're great for crafty projects...like painting..esPECIALLY when you wanna do small polka dots

~also for egg coloring when you have the concentrated dyes and draw pics on them

~cleaning your computer keyboard

~manicures; taking polish out of creases when taking polish off and also cleaning out under your fingernails if you don't have an orange stick

they're useful little buggers!!!

That's true...but I don't honestly think there'd be a market for q-tips if not for people who use them to clean out their ears. All those things you mentioned can be done with other tools, so I don't think too many people are rushing the q-tip aisle for those purposes.

The reason I had q-tips out in the first place yesterday was to remove nail polish. And then I was like, ooh, must stick in ear now...

If you made your ears hurt, that's probably too much. Gently does it. I usually clean my ears right after I shower, since that makes the wax warm and watery and soft.

I think Q-tips just write that on their label so they can't get sued if somebody punctures their eardrums.

And for what it's worth, they can be used for cleaning one's outer ear, if one is too lazy to shove a washcloth around there.

if the wax isnt coming out of your ear, pour a capful of hydrogen peroxide in there and let it work for a couple of minutes. that will losen things up. you don't want to clean aggressively for too long. i wouldn't worry about it so long as you can still hear since i think the major risk is piercing the eardrum, which would totally suck ass.

Nah, it's not that I need assistance getting wax out...it's that I have a compulsion to stick q-tips in my ears, regardless, and nothing is more rewarding than pulling one out with a huge chunk of gooey wax on it. But maybe that's just me.

the risk is that you can push wax deeper into the ear canal where the ear can't get rid of it like it normally does. It irritates the ear canal and increaes rthe risk of infections like swimmers ear.
Ear wax shouldn't need to be cleaned out. If build up is a problem then sticking something in the ear lieka q-tipcan make it a much worse problem. You're better using a product to disolve it and let it drain out than shoving it furhtier in with q-tips.
