Camping Update
Sep. 13th, 2006 09:16 amSo far it looks like at least 7 or 8 of us are in for camping on Saturday the 23rd. Here's what I'm thinking...
I'd like to go on a hike on Saturday before setting up camp. Crabtree Falls is the default choice, but most of us have done that hike before. The AT goes right behind my farm, so there are some trails there that we could pick up, most notably The Priest. Now, I've never hiked The Priest, but from what I hear, it's a real doozy. Obviously the hiking would be an optional part of the trip, but hopefully everyone will come for both hiking and camping. I figure we'd meet for the hike by 2pm at the latest so as to guarantee a return to the campsite with plenty of time to set up and get food before it starts to get dark. I dunno, I'm really bad at estimating times for this sort of thing. I don't think any hike would take us longer than 2 hours or so, I guess. But really, I don't know these things and it depends on the hike we choose. We could also do something on the parkway, which is just about a 30 minute drive from the farm. There's lots of good stuff around there. I'm open to suggestions and votes.
I'll be bringing my own tent and a couple of camp chairs, but the tent won't be big enough for extra people, so make sure if you don't have a tent of your own, you make arrangements with someone who does. Also plan for a cold night...it should be nice during the day but once it gets dark, the temps will dip quite a bit. Yes, we'll have booze, so this is a 21-and-up trip. We'll also have musical instruments, beans, kites, s'mores, and fire. If you want to bring something else, be my guest. Note that I did not list toilets on the things that we will have.
Let me know if you're in for hiking, camping, or both, and if you need me to help you coordinate with others for a tent or a ride, I'll be happy to do that. In the event that it rains, maybe we can party at
oobermeister's house, since his folks are in Japan. But then again, maybe I should clear that with him first:)
Peace.
