Sep. 16th, 2006 07:28 amResults are finally in from Thursday's bridge game - we were ten points out of first place (1500 out of a possible 2400 matchpoints; the winner had 1510), so we took .88 red and .87 black for second place. I wanted to win because there were gold points for first, but not enough to make a difference, really, I just wanted to be able to say I had some. However, the competition was much stronger this week than it's been - all the big dogs come out when major points are available - and I'm really pleased with myself (and my partner) for doing so well against them.
The dinner party at Ann's was really nice yesterday. The food was the best I've eaten in a long time (I've been cooking for myself lately, remember?), and the company was very nice. The weather was perfect, too. The only hitch in the evening was when I swallowed a bug. I quietly excused myself and then threw up in their driveway. No one noticed, though, so we're cool. My dad had a gigglefit on the way home when I told him what had happened. Speaking of my dad, he got pretty talkative as the night wore on, and at one point he got into a discussion with Ann about her plumbing. They live in an old house and she was lamenting the fact that they're going to have to replace their whole plumbing system next year. My dad piped up about a show he'd seen on the Discovery Channel about supertoilets, and how these things could flush golf balls and all sorts of random shit that shouldn't be in the toilet. I think the Discovery Channel must be hurting for programming. More Dirty Jobs! More Mythbusters!
I'm off to see the Hokies now. Sometime this week I'm going to make corn pudding. It's a southern thing, I think, but we had some at the party last night and I remembered that I know how to make that stuff, and it's only like my favorite food, so maybe a meal of latkes (something else I'm pretty sure I can handle) and corn pudding later this week...exciting.
Peace.
