Feb. 1st, 2007 03:32 pmAhhhhh crap crap crap crap crap.
I am feeling a bit overwhelmed.
It did not occur to me, until just now of course, that today being February 1, I should be working on the January end of month reports that take forever and suck my will to live. Add that to the pile of crap that I also have on my plate due to time away and a general boom in my inbox over the last month, and I have time to breathe...never (as evidenced by my writing of this blog). Something cool, though? I started with this company on 2/6/06. It's been almost a full year. Holy wow, time flies. Emily G. leaves Antarctica on the 6th, but will be learning to drive on the left side of the road in New Zealand for a few weeks before finally heading home in late Feb/early March. Since that so nicely coordinates with my good friend
oobermeister's birthday, and hey, I've got a new house that needs warming, I dare say a party is on the horizon. You have been warned!
It also just occurred to me that today being February 1, and also a Thursday, and thus the first Thursday, I will be playing bridge with Ahren tonight. And then a week from today, I will be taking in the sounds of Eddie From Ohio at the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton. It's been too long. And I have another tournament this weekend - this time in Richmond, so much less of a drive and no hotel room to pay for. :)
In lighter still news, my mom has taken a turn for the cool again. I guess getting all my shit out of her garage helped lighten her up or something. Funny story: she was all set to buy a new washing machine after poking around the thing and not being able to figure it out for days, until my dad just happened to glance at the circuit box to realize the fuse had simply been blown or whatever the right word for it is and all he did was flip the switch and the old washer was back in working order. So I guess my mom feels like she saved a few hundred dollars or something, because she just called me from Sam's offering to buy anything I needed for the apartment while she was there. I just asked her to pick up some more protein shakes as I am running low on those, and she read the price tag, "$16.72, I guess I can handle a few boxes of those." So I guess this is a gift? Cool. Just what I always wanted...
Random: Thank the lord on high for cloudy skies this morning. No matter which route I take to work, I must come down a road that faces due east. This hasn't been a problem until recently, and I very much look forward to daylight savings time correcting this for me, but omg the sun! There is literally a stretch only about 1/4 mile long where I cannot see a damn thing and I'm convinced none of the other motorists can, either. When I say I cannot see a damn thing, I mean that absolutely literally, no hyperbolic intentions whatsoever. My windshield is clean yet I am blinded for that stretch of road that I must take to get to work. And I am afraid for my life. I already come into work early enough, thank you, and I imagine coming a few minutes to a half hour later wouldn't make much difference, anyway, so I look forward to the day that the movement of the earth corrects itself so that Elliott Avenue in Charlottesville, Virginia is not taking on the brunt of the sun's force in the 7 o'clock hour. Until then, it's fine with me if it rains, snows, or just clouds over every morning until then. For the sake of my car and my sanity, I wish it with all my heart. And bless the mountains to my west for keeping this problem from repeating itself on my drive home.
Peace.
