jianantonicYou know how sometimes when cell phones go out of range, you can hear the other person clearly, but they can't hear you? It's always so nice when that happens, and then the last words you hear from the other person before they slam their phone off in frustration are "FUCKING JIZZBAG!"
I think from now on, I'm going to answer my phone like that. Or sign off like that when I'm talking to this person.
"Bye, talk to you later!"
"Yep, fucking jizzbag!"
The bunny bridge tournament this weekend was mostly a success, though I'm a little disappointed that we didn't sweep the floor with our opposition in the Swiss. I certainly thought we would, but we weren't really "on" as a team, and had to settle for 5 wins out of 8 matches. There's no reason we couldn't blitz any of those teams on a good day, or even a mediocre day, but we didn't have that yesterday. Still, I got 4.5 for the weekend, and I'm playing in the Waynesboro club tonight with Ahren.
I got my Harry Potter book and started reading on Sunday morning, but bridge got in the way and I'm only about 265 pages in so far. I guess I'll take my time so I have something to occupy myself with on the drive up to Hillsdale. I'm sure I'll be able to finish it before I get to FRFF, and I look forward to discussing it at that time with all my hippie friends. I felt so left out at FRFF '05 when I had only just started reading book 6 and they'd all finished it and were slinking off to discuss it privately. Sigh. Not this time!
Point of annoyance - if my head is buried in a book, that should translate to "I am not available for conversation." But somehow, every single fucking person at that bridge tournament came up to me on Sunday while I was trying to read and wanted me to talk about the book.
What I wish I had the nerve to say to these people:
"Hey, is that the new Harry Potter book?"
"I don't know, people keep interrupting me before I get a chance to read the title page."
"Do you like it?" or "Is it good?"
"I'll let you know when I'm done with it."
The second one is only the slightest bit snarky, but I just can't muster that kind of attitude to these people's faces. Behind their backs? Well, we all know that I'm not exactly fond of many people in the bridge community. There are exceptions! (If you're reading this blog, you're certainly one of them - the exceptions, that is.)
Well, back to work. Peace.
