That was refreshing.
Aug. 14th, 2007 10:24 amI really needed a good session at the club with
mczen last night to maintain what's left of my sanity. I get really frustrated with myself if I have a string of bad days, and I've actually had a string of disappointing tournaments, which is even worse. So I needed to do well last night. I made two really stupid bids (back to back against a really bad pair that we should've creamed), and I missed a couple of defensive signals from Z, but I think my declarer play was really solid, and I'd give myself a B+ on bidding and defense for the evening as a whole - I'd like to know how Z feels about this self-assessment, but I think he's in agreement that it was a good session with just a few hiccups.
We finished with a 63% for first overall (7 full tables), but this would've been more like a 66 or 67 if the rest of the field had been employing actual human brains. One board I remember was 6C making six the way we played it, or 2C making 4 by one opponent. Stupid shit like that all night. This particular board was to our advantage, but there were of course several that weren't. We bid a 26 point 4H (1N - 2C - 2H - 4H seemed like an obvious auction) that just so happens to be down 1, when EVERYONE else played a part score that made 2 or sometimes 3. Ridiculous. I should stop bitching, though. Can't do better than 1st, and Z said I played well, so I should be pleased. I also got thoroughly spanked for the incorrect bids that I made, which will (hopefully) ensure that I don't fuck those up again. Here's hoping.
I'm interviewing another candidate for the admin job here today. At first I liked the idea of being responsible for the interviewing and hiring of our new person, but I've decided recently that it's not really very fun at all. Oh well. One of these days we'll actually hire someone and then I get to train them. Woo.
I'm seeing my trainer tonight - that means sore butt tomorrow! Yay.
Peace.
