Aug. 16th, 2007 09:30 amI wish there were more options for internet service in town. Comcast is such a fucking joke. My connection is all fucked up at home, again...and my bill was fucked up, too. I'm not a fan.
So I got this bill on Tuesday for $130 for cable internet. Yeahno. I pay $23/month, and I'm totally current. The bill looked ridiculous - it showed my previous balance and that it was paid in full and on time, and then it gave an itemized list of NEW charges that date back to January of this year BEFORE THE CABLE WAS EVEN HOOKED UP AT MY PLACE! So I called customer service and told them I had a problem with my bill. They looked at it and said "Oh yeah, we had a billing glitch, but it's fixed now. You actually only owe $114." Um. No.
So the lady tried to tell my that promotional pricing was over, and now it's $42/month, and since the promotion ended mid-month for me, they'd prorated my last month of the promotion, so that made the bill "a little higher." Um. Hello? So I calmly explained math to the customer service lady and pointed out that even with an entire two months on one bill, it would be less than $114. So then she actually LOOKED at my bill for the first time, and realized that I was being billed back to before I had the service, and she got even more confused.
She kept repeating shit about how there's the wrong promotion code on my bill, so they'd fixed it by going back and redoing it...which apparently re-billed me for eight months of service. It was obviously wrong, and she had her supervisor in the call, too now, but could they fix it? No. After putting me on hold to talk amongst themselves for half an hour, they came back on the line to tell me that I could expect a call from the local office within the next few days. Erg. Okay, whatever, they're working on it. I think.
But then at home last night, I couldn't get on the internet. Before, it was due to problems with my network, but this time the network said it was connected (excellently so, even!), but I couldn't bring up anything web-related. I don't know if that's a Comcast issue or not, but I'm blaming them. Unlike the network issues, all of the computers at my house were experiencing identical problems this time, so I know it's not just me. I wish I weren't so computer retarded, or maybe I could do something other than get really really frustrated and cry all night about this, but dammit, it's frustrating as hell. I don't think the service has even been worth the "promotional" rate with the way it's been going for me.
So, in conclusion, fuck you, Comcast.
Peace.

Date: 2007-08-16 01:47 pm (UTC)Sad thing is, no matter which way you go with how you get your internet and cable service, you'll still going to pay the same no matter what. I've looked for better deals out there, and simply can't find any.

Date: 2007-08-16 02:04 pm (UTC)The funniest bit - one time the internet connection went down so I called in. The guy didn't have a record of an area outage yet so he wanted to dispatch a tech to the house. I work from home, for a web company and for some of my own web clients, so being off line was just not going to be good. The earliest appt he had was over 3 weeks away. Guy on the phone says, "even by our standards, that's bad". Says something about their standards, doesn't it? Fortunately it was their end (area outage) and we were back up by the next AM.
Don't take my internet away - I can't function without it!

Date: 2007-08-16 02:37 pm (UTC)You may want to check what kind of service you've got.
Back when they were Adelphia they did the same thing to me with the "promotional pricing" and I changed my service down a tier - all it cost me was a tiny bit of speed and 2 email addresses that I don't even use anyway.
Ask them about the basic high-speed plan. It should be the one with 5 email addresses, that's all I really remember. It costs me 28 bucks a month.

Date: 2007-08-16 03:05 pm (UTC)i'd try going to the comcast center in cville so you can talk to an actual person and perhaps smack them if you feel so inclined. can't smack people over the phone. i'm not entirely certain where it is, but i'm sure cville has one. i do however know where the comcast center is in richmond if you want to go there...

Date: 2007-08-16 08:53 pm (UTC)As far as I know, though, Embarq is available for Charlottesville. I've talked to my mom about us switching but we get a good package deal and, overall, they are actually better than Adelphia was...
