So, the woman who was supposed to play bridge with my mom today didn't show up. Turns out, she was in the clink for attempted murder the night before.

I've played with this woman before. She LOVED me. At least she acted like it. I'd heard stories of her volatile temper, but I'd never witnessed it myself, and I actually liked her a lot. But based on what I've been told, I can't actually say that I'm surprised...which is weird.

The name we knew her by was completely different than the name in the story. She always said she lived with her 89-year-old mother in Keswick. According to the story, her 94-year old mom lives in a nursing home, and she lives in town, right down the road from my parents.

It's strange how she lived this elaborate lie.

I wonder if she was completely batshit crazy all the time, or if those times she was so nice to me were actual sparks of actual niceness. I'm inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt - not that she's not a criminal - I think the case is pretty clear - but that, if I contacted her, she'd be nice...but then again maybe not. I think I'll wait until the story develops further to decide what to do about that. From the looks of things, I have a long time to figure that out...she's not going anywhere.

Scary! Not quite as close to home but in a similar vein, the guy in this story () had attended the wedding of a couple of friends of mine only a few months before the incident. Even though I photographed the wedding, I never met him and didn't get him in any photos. But all the same... in the same space and all that.
