Jan. 2nd, 2008 10:48 pmZ and I just got back from the movies. Klamath Falls has one theater, and that one theater was not playing either of the two movies I've been wanting to see heard of lately, but Z wanted to see Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, which turned out to be fucking awesome. It's a parody music biopic story that will be particularly funny if you saw Walk the Line. To be honest, I was a little annoyed at first at how closely the film paralleled WTL, but I was laughing so hard I stopped minding after about 15 minutes. Stick with it if you don't like it at first -- it's worth it. And Dan Bern wrote a lot of the songs. How bout that?
We took a long walk in the snow today into downtown Klamath Falls, which ate up a good part of the day and was a lot of fun. Everyone said I was nuts for coming to Oregon in winter, but I think it's absolutely gorgeous here. Today, aside from being cold, was a really lovely day. And that's why we have coats. Can't say I'm not looking forward to Bermuda, but I will be sad to leave here, so I'm not anxious about it or anything.
I'm trying to get my hands on this book before I leave so I can read it on the plane. I've been meaning to read it for a long time, and after reading survivors' accounts in a coffee table book at my parents' house, I'm looking forward to reading the more comprehensive story. (It's a book about Hurricane Camille, which hit Nelson County hard in 1969, dumping record rain -- enough to drown birds in the sky and sweep away whole farms in minutes -- and causing monumental damage to my favorite place on earth. It's not a happy read, but it is fascinating, especially since I know so many of the people involved personally (and am related to most of them).
I also want to find the Harry Potter series for my iPod. I have the hard copies, but not with me, and I'd like to listen to the books out loud in the car with McKenzie, since I've been wanting to reread them all and he's never read them. I'll poke around iTunes to see what I can find, but if anyone knows where I should look if that doesn't work, please let me know. I don't have a shipping address here and I'm leaving in 2 weeks for Bermuda anyway, so it could be a bit of a challenge. If nothing else I'll buy them on CD if I can find them at a bookstore here. ETA: Fuck that. Audiobooks on iTunes run $40+ apiece. That's crap.
Any other book recommendations for the road?
Peace.
