Feb. 15th, 2008 10:17 amI have a new post up at WOW today. I did a lot of brainstorming this morning, because I've decided I want to run a series of weekend adventure ideas to mix in with my regular stuff, for folks who can't spare a lot of time away from home/work/kids/whatever. The only problem was that everything I was coming up with was a summertime activity (I already did skiing last month). But then it dawned on me that Spring Training just opened for Major League Baseball, and that would be a good one. In another month or so I can start using my summer ideas, but if anyone has ideas for good wintertime getaways, I'd love suggestions. I've got things like the Smithsonians in DC and Presidents' homes and other historical stuff on my brainstorming list, but I'm trying to branch out beyond just the things I know about here in Virginia, and I already wrote posts about DC and NYC, so I want to wait awhile before revisiting that stuff. Anyway.
I'm looking forward to the Wiyos concert tonight at the Gravity Lounge. It's $15 at the door and they don't have an opener. Showtime is 7:30.
oobermeister, I hope to see you there. Anyone else? I'd love to catch up with everyone, but other than this show, I'm busy all weekend with bridge and then I'm leaving Monday for my next trip (a shorter one this time, unless plans change, as they have been known to do). So if you wanna see me, come out to the show tonight. The last time I saw them, something very strange happened, and I really hope something similar happens again tonight. Did I write about the insect-man? It's pretty hard to put into words what happened, but no one in the band or the audience seemed to have a clue wtf was going on. It was rad.
Last night I had a dream that I was at a bridge tournament in Antarctica. It was summer there, and it wasn't hot, but because it was warmer than usual, the ice behaved differently than it does on the rest of the planet, and there was lots of steam. There was an ice cave that you could (had to? can't remember) walk through, neck deep in steamy water. And the surface of the cave would react with the steam and warm water to create a spongy sort of trampoline in places. I was having a lot of fun in this dream, bouncing around in the ice cave, when my neighbor's fucking alarm clock started beeping at 6am. A good stomping on the floor usually gets her to turn it off, but this morning I couldn't get the idea of suing her out of my mind. I'm not the type of person to perpetuate silly lawsuits, and it's not something I would actually do, but I just sort of fantasized about it for a while. A better fantasy would be jumping around the trampoline floors of an ice cave, but the inconsiderate bitch snapped me out of that when she let her alarm beep so loud and long that it jolted me out of that dream. Grr.
I certainly don't miss my neighbors when I'm out of town. I won't sue, but I guess I should complain to the HOA again. That seemed to stop the problem for a few weeks, anyway. Ahwell. I'm leaving again in three days. I'll deal with it when I get back.
Peace.
